This looks like Philip's death - so not sure how he could be the father of Alfred Ashworth Puxley b. 1892?

Rootie - I think the middle name of Ashworth may be an indication that Fanny had a relationship after Philip's death? Philip being named as father seems to be that phenomenon of a dead man being the father of his wife's subsequent children.

Yes, I thought that was possible MarieCeleste. For some reason I thought it odd that Fanny had Maud and Alfred baptised together after Philip's death. Wonder what excuse she gave the Vicar for Philip's absence at the baptism?

I think this would be worth checking out. I think this Philip may be the brother of Francis and also the man that your Philip is named for. Also the son Philip on this census may be the Sawyer who had children baptised around the same time as your Philip's daughter Maud was baptised.

Thank you MarieCeleste the date you found for Thursia L matches with the 1901 census that I was given by a relation that was of no use to her. The extra information you have given me is a great help.
Thank you so very much. Sheila
