I am looking fo the birth of a William Whetstone I can find him on the censuses up to 1891 when he was a sapper in Royal Engineers In 1881 he is living with parents David Whetstone and Mary Ann Whetstone nee Dalton. All of the censuses say he was born in Leicestershire although dad was born inBedworth Warwickshire and mum in Grantham Lincolnshire. Also I can not find him after 1891 nor a death record.Thankyouall for taking the time to read thia and forn any help you are able to give>A postnote William was I believe born before the marriage of his parents marriage in December 1872 in LeicestershireEdit my husband knows of Whetstone "cousins" who lived in Medicine Hat Canada trying to trace them They either belonged to William or his brother David born 1874 neither of whom I can trace after 1891 |

As the parents didn't marry until Q4 1872, he may have been registered as Dalton - have you checked that? |

IF we can not find the birth can anyone see William later than 1891 thankyou |

Given that there was no pressure on parents to register births before 1874 then it's likely that his was one that slipped through the net. My personal guess is that it would be even less likely for the illegitimate births to be registered. |

Thankyou Marie Cleste so perhaps he was serving abroard in 1901 and1911 I will digest this information so thankyou very much. Is there anyway of finding out who was living at Helmsley street in 1935 |

I'm not 100% sure that the 1935 arrival is him, unless he did have a middle name that you didn't know about. |

Hello - I've looked for his service records already (usually one of my first things to check!) and I'm not finding anything. The only record for that name (or variants) was a lad born 1880 in Leeds who enlisted 1897. |

Well, tried tracing David/Mary Ann through to 1911 census to see how many children born & still living - but no use, they have put married 40 years but just put a cross in the bit about children. These ancestors can be quite inconsiderate! |
