The article regarding Alexander Crickett Barber's funeral in 1888 says there was a floraral tribute from his eldest son Alfred Barber & wife Nellie. It doesn't say they were at the funeral, but Alfred must have been still alive to send flowers. |

Thanks Marie, that's him. I have copies of his documents but I don't have details of his stations so that would be great! |

Vonnie - I guess the documents must be the same as you have. It lists the dates of his ranks but no detail of postings abroad. |

Think you may have something MC. Any sign of Eliza J (c1835) or Sarah (c1840) - both were on 1851 census as born Canada? |

Brilliant Flip! Thanks! I'm beginning to think the children born in Canada don't always put that on subsequent census. I've a few where they say Ipswich when I know they were Canada, unless it's other people filling it in of course that is the trouble.. too many options for errors! |

Sorry Anne, can't post a link - it's on the Lancashire library online reference site - you have to register to use it (it's free though). But the article refers to Alec & his wife Mrs A J, Barber. (which will probably not be her initials, as women were often referred to with their husband's initials). |

Possibly Samuel. |

Afraid, there's nothing coming up in military marriages. It's possible that it may have been a civil marriage and registration didn't start in Ireland until 1845. |

I'd come across some US civil war records for an Alexander Barber who had died c 1864, however I think this 1911 shows the son f Alexander Crickett: |

Ah Boo! Ha! I don't think I'm ever going to continue that line ... it's such a shame as it's my absolute maternal line ... mother's mother's mother etc ... I would love to know if she was indeed Irish or just another military family . The fact that she was mentioned as Eleanor in Amelia's christening in Limerick makes me think so. And that Alexander met her whilst stationed there....... She certainly served him well , popping them out every year! And they died together at a ripe old age ... ahhh . |

So, by 1911 he may have been a widow? Or it may not be the same person. |
