Ancestrally...only connection is that one of my great (should that be grand) uncles died in a mental home in Abergavenny. And yes sorry Theresa....

Always enjoyed going to visit grandparents in Abergavenny (Park Ave - once Deri Rd) opposite the park. Everyone moved out or dead now though.

various ancestors came from Aber itself, Llanfoist, Cwmyoy, Govilon, Trevethin, Bwlch

Ah Llanfoist. I remember when the canal subsided and flooded the place! Abergavenny is a lovely little town and the food festival that they have there annually is well worth a visit :-)

No it just says St William Catholic Chapel by certificate,then a name I presume the Priest, but cannot read it, it looks foreign, and the Registrar was James Ainsworth.

I would have a go at looking it up but I can't find that church in either the LRO catalogue or by google. Does it give any indication that it is a chapel attached to another church

found it - it is now called St Joseph's Darwen and they do have marriages from 1870 and baptism's from 1871

I think you could be right, its worth having a look at that one, at the moment I havn't got anything to lose only £10 and that's ok.

OK so if she was born December 1853 as per Ann's post above then in November 1875 she would be 22 years old - et voila! I'd invest £9.25 in that one :-)

Hi Ann.
Edward and Ann were Married in the Saint William Catholic Chapel, at Over Darwen, district of Blackburn, Lancs (this is what it says on their marriage certificate) 8th November 1875. Ann O'Connor 22 years, Card Room Hand, Edward Marsh 26 years, Brick Setter. Ann's father Michael O'Connor is a Stoker.

where exactly were Edward & Ann married in1875. I assume it was an RC marriage and their registers sometimes give extra info that is not found on a certificate.

If you can provide the exact date and church of the marriage maybe Lancs record office would have a look, otherwise I can look for you next time I go.
