Im always the optimist, keeping all bits of paper and note scribblings, you should see the size of the box I need..!!!!

I drew a blank with the Douglas Leslie bit initially also, and weird as this may sound a "medium" told me that my grandfather (who had passed away unexpectedly just over a month prior to that and was the younger son of Douglas Leslie) said to swap names over to help.

He may of course have been talking about the birth parents names but havent looked at that bit yet.

Thank you, I think you're all great.

Hi Julie,

I asked her to delete the other thread before everyone started to duplicate the research - there were only a few questions on there at the time and no info. She did this !

If this has caused a problem then it is my fault!!

Hope you are doing O.K.

Hello everyone, just as a long-shot - but would welcome a 2nd opinion on my mystery..

Back to the birth parents of my Great-Grandfather - Alice Ann Davies and her husband Albert George.

On Ancestry.com a friend has found an entry on the 1911 census, and I might be clutching at straws, but Alice has a first name of Hephzibah - could this be a spiritual name?
Interestingly there are 3 female young children, a Lilian and an Amy that I can read, with them, but no boys, although they do state that 2 have died.. Could they have been travelling overseas, and if as it states, he had some Governmental type work, they didnt want any male children being forced into service?

Am I clutching at straws?

A really good thing though, Ive made a link through Genes to another line of the Stone family - sadly they are just as flumoxed as I am with this "mystery".

Thank you for listening to my ramblings,
Gill

Sorry to trouble everyone again... Please would someone be able to help me confirm or remove a name that I have found..

In the 1911 Census I can find a George Albert Davis (different spelling to Davies) with a wife of Hephzibah Alice (married for 13 years) - but as I do not know the maiden name Im unable to establish whether there is a connection - Im looking for Edwards..

Children listed on the 1911 Census are Hephzibah Annie, Lilian Maud and Ivy Mary (2 children listed as having died).

He has some job listing Messenger for the Army.

Thank you

Thank you Gins for the information, I think thats another avenue safely closed off.

Im starting to wonder if RamblingRose's thoughts are correct, earlier on in this thread, and perhaps George Albert Stone and Albert George Davies are one and the same person.

Maybe making 5 out of 2 + 2, but I have found an Alice A Davies on the 1901 census as a single parlourmaid in the house of a Sophia M Huddart (50 Westbourne Park Rd), in Paddington - maybe she gave Albert George her surname and the Edwards name for her was her own mother's maiden surname..
Other families might have answered things correctly but I cant say the same for this lot!!
Hard to have all these questions and no-one around anymore to ask answers of.. :-)

Would anyone be able to advise me, are there a list of single unmarried mother homes on any searches? Just wondering if one was in Kent..

Thank you everyone for your time.

Hello helpful people,

Would anyone know please that might have come across this before - if an original marriage certificate has some written notes on it and signed and dated by a Rector 10 years after the original ceremony, would there be an additional entry in the records?

Just thought Id ask before I start down a potentially meaningless path.

Thank you
