i kow in the 1861 census it looks like william worrall was living in darlaston as a lodger and was working as a coal miner.on the marriage cert i got of him its got him as a miner and also profession of father is miner.

William's brother in 1881

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Household:

Hugh Francis WORRALL Head M Male 24 Tipton, Stafford, England Steam Hammer Driver (Iron)
Eleanor WORRALL Wife M Female 19 Smethwick, Stafford, England
Eliza Ellen WORRALL Daur U Female 8 m Smethwick, Stafford, England

I would start by obtaining Hugh's birth certificate

Births Sep 1855
Worrall Hugh Francis Dudley 6c 49

Once you've found out his mother's maiden name you can then look for her marriage to William Worrall.

If the marriage is after William jnr was born it could be that he was registered in her surname

found them on 61 census and no william living with them, would that explain why he was in darlaston on 61 census as a lodger and working as a coal miner which ties into his occupation on the marriage cert

Mike*,
How do you know that Hugh is William's brother?
Craig,
The family you posted for 1851 has Father Thomas not William, and not a coal miner.

Added:
Hugh appears to be the son of Noah and Priscilla from 1867 and 1871 censuses.

Sorry, I took it that the 1861 posted by Sylvia was the correct family.

i know the gentlemans house william was living at in 1861 was named william,so did he just lie on the marriage cert?

It's possible.
He certainly wouldn't be the first to do so.

Who were the witnesses on his marriage cert ?
Sometimes they are relations

Right guys I've had the birth cert of phebe come through today.her father is Owen Worrall a miner and mother Anne Worrall formally ball.so this looks good enough to be be Williams parents.what you think?

But I thought that William's father was William NOT Owen ???

Craig Report 6 May 2012 22:31

well what ive found is owen died when william was 2 and phebe was 3ish so they wouldn't of known there father and looks like ann died before william got married so it looks like he just used his own name in father on marriage cert
