Hi I have tried on every free site to find the death of William Oakes according to his marriage lines he was of full age when he married in Plymouth 19 November 1852 ,and a widower I know nothing about him. His widow Sarah re-married and according to her second marriage certificate dated 22 August 1858 she was a widow.

So somewhere between 1852 and 1858 William Oakes died.and I can't find it being registered anywhere can you help please
Thank you
Sheila :-( :-S

Sheila ... it might have been better to have added this to that other thread, as the only reason you are looking for him is because of his marriage to Sarah Monday.

Otherwise, you are likely to have other helpers looking for the same information as has already been posted.

I know nothing at all about him. He is just a name on a marriage certificate . If he died at sea his death would be reported,????? or how was Sarah able to claim she was a widow??? It's all a bit wierd to me lol

Sheila

Sheila Report 23 Mar 2012 04:29

Sheila

I do not have a subscription to this site, but there is a pay-per-view, or the newspapers are also available on GR if you ahve the correct sub

But I have just doen a free search on the original site

http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk

I went to search, and then to Advanced Search, and entered in the top category (All These Words)

Sarah Monday William Oakes

All places

All newspapers

Dates 1 January 1852 to 31 December 1858

and came up with this snippet, Sarah's second marriage, obviously ............ to see more, you have to pay! Note William Oakes addresses.

Although someone MAY have a sub and be willing to look for you.

Royal Cornwall Gazette

Fri 03 Sep 1858
Cornwall, England
....... Plymouth, to Sarah, second daughter of Admiral Monday, and relict of William Oakes, Esq., late of Patch Court, Somerset- shire,

“ h, to Sarah, second daughter of Admiral Monday, and relict of William Oakes, Esq., late of Patch Court, Somerset- shire, and Shirland House, Derbyshire. On Monday, 30th August, at Perranuthnoe, by tbe Rev. R. Astley, John Laity, Esq., of Goldsithney, ... ?

There may be some confusion in what has been copied there ...... all the newspapers are scanned.

BUT it does give us an address that we didn't have before!!!!

and this was then repeated in several other papers.

but I cannot see a possible death for him

It doesn't help that we have no idea how old he was, nor where he was born!

do you have the marriage certificate???

does that give any more idea of his age, other than "of full age"??

I tried googling

william+oakes+shirland+house+derbyshire

that rpoduced quite a bit

then I tried william+oakes+hatch+court+somerset

and that produced this little tidbit in a description of Hatch Beauchamp Church

--------------------
During the early 19th century Hatch Court had many different occupiers. From 1838 to 1855 William Oakes owned it He was a churchwarden and there is a memorial to him in the west porch. From 1856 to the end of the century various members of the Hardstaff family resided at Hatch Court. They were Methodists, and Henry Hardstaff built a small Methodist chapel on the edge of the park. However, the Hardstaff family as owners of Hatch Court retained the right to the use of five pews in the north aisle of the church, and this is Shawn on the Gilbert Scott plan of the church (1867).
-----------------

so it looks as though William died between 1855 and 1856.

try the googling!!!!!
