Alathea's maiden name was HEELEY - as per info posted some time ago by Flick
'Grandma Oswald' could be on the other side of the family
Who was your father?
You say he was born to Barnes/Parker in 1929
These are the births of children of the marriage between Barnes and Parker (nee Heeley)
Births Mar 1922 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Barnes S**** Heeley Worksop 7b 96
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Births Sep 1932 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Barnes B**** Heeley Worksop 7b 88
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Births Mar 1936 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BARNES C******** M Heeley Worksop 7b 93
What does your father's birth cert say - exactly - about his parents?
Is this his birth?
Births Mar 1929 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BARNES John H Parker Ecclesall B. 9c 582

I AM still working on it - I promise you Ronald!
I just can't pull it all together yet! :-(
On the surface of it, it looks like your grandfather married Alithea and they eventually split up or she died.
While this was going on - Gertrude married Fred Walter(s) and they split up/divorced???
Then at some stage they got together and 'lived happily ever after' ???
I don't think Fred died until 1970 (IF this is him) ??
England & Wales, Death Index: 1916-2005 about Frederick Alfred Walters Name: Frederick Alfred Walters Birth Date: 16 Jun 1895 Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1970 Age at Death: 75 Registration district: Heywood Inferred County: Lancashire Volume: 10c Page: 1057
I will keep looking and come back as soon as I have anything useful.
Dea Xxx
P.S. - I really suspect a divorce, or something similar for Gertrude as why would she have been known as Grandma Oswald rather that Grandma Walters???

But were Grandad Harry Barnes and Gertrude Oswald both named as parents on the birth certs of your father and your aunt or were they just on your aunt's and Alithea on your father's ?

To whom was Alathea married in the 1950's?
I can't understand why your father's birth shows MMN PARKER.
Do you actually have possession of the cert? If not, you need it.

Thanks Dea
As Alethea re-married as Barnes, the assumption must be that she was divorced from Harry Barnes, unless he died before 1959.
When DID he die?
Who is the Aunt Ann to whom you refer?

When was that?

Ronnie.
Can we start with your father and work back please - ignoring what you have found and just working on the facts that you 'know'.
Who was he brought up with as a child and who were his brothers and sisters etc. ?
I believe he is still 'with us' ? Could you give us ONLY the details that he remembers please and NOT those that you have since found.
Thanks,
Dea x
