Hi, am now on the trail of my sister's husband's family for them. Can anyone please do some research for me as I have (still) no subscriptions. Firstly we have a Peter Edwin D Allum born March 1918 in Medway, Kent. MMN Williams. We think possibly Peter's father was John Allum who married a Laura B Williams in 1911 in Bromley, Kent. Unfortunately this is all we have. Have tried to search the 1911 census as far as I am able without having to subscribe but have had no luck. Not sure if John was born in Kent nor when. Likewise for Laura B Williams if these to indeed are Peter's parents. I have also tried to search City Ark but without knowing exactly which districts Medway and Bromley come under the search is never ending. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Kathryn

Until you know for definate who Peter's parents were, there's not much use looking for them in 1911.
Buy Peter's birth certificate and take it from there.
IF it turns out that his parents are who you expect them to be, the marriage in question may have been after 5th April, which means they wouldn't be married at the time of the census anyway

for ref:-
Births Mar 1918 (>99%) Allum Peter E D Williams Medway 2a 1139
and probable sibling:-
Births Jun 1912 (>99%) Allum John G D Williams Medway 2a 1471
|
Thank you Mike, know it's a long shot but just thought I would post a thread.
Kind regards
Kathryn

There are other Allum births in Medway before the two already posted:-
Births Mar 1906 (>99%) Allum Jessie Medway 2a 727 Allum William Medway 2a 770 Births Sep 1908 (>99%) Allum Jennie Medway 2a 761 Allum Sarah Ann Medway 2a 761
but you will need that birth cert. to see who the parents are before you confirm any marriage or other records found.
|
Just in case you don't have it:-
Name: John G D Allum Birth Date: abt 1912 Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1960 Age at Death: 48 Registration district: Bridgwater Inferred County: Somerset Volume: 7c Page: 129
|
Just for future reference in case marriage is correct.
Laura has a middle name beginning with B, so this looks to be her in 1911:-
WILLIAMS, George Head Married M 46 1865 Verger Hereford Clehonger VIEW WILLIAMS, Laura Wife Married 25 years F 50 1861 Surrey Guildford VIEW WILLIAMS, Laura Bessie Daughter Single F 22 1889 Dressmaker's Assistant Kent Sydenham VIEW WILLIAMS, Madge Emily Daughter Single F 19 1892 Shop Assistant Tobacconist Hants Farnborough VIEW WILLIAMS, Edwin Charles Son Single M 17 1894 Gardener Jobbing Hants Farnborough VIEW WILLIAMS, Annie Grace Daughter Single F 15 1896 Kent Beckenham VIEW WILLIAMS, Dorothy May Daughter F 14 1897 School Kent Beckenham VIEW WILLIAMS, Ethel Beatrice Daughter F 11 1900 School Kent Beckenham VIEW RG number: RG14 Piece: 3654 Reference: RG14PN3654 RG78PN138 RD42 SD2 ED1 SN119 Registration District: Bromley Sub District: Beckenham Enumeration District: 1 Parish: Beckenham Address: The Pines 11 Monivea Road Beckenham Kent County: Kent
8 children:- 7 living and 1 died
........but here again this would need confirmation from the marriage cert.

Thank you once again for all the information, this is much appreciated and very interesting. I have just been informed that Peter died in 2006 in the Hampshire District, buried in Ringwood but death registered Bournemouth. Will come back as and when I have any other information. I managed with the help of some wonderful people on GR to find my family as I was adopted at birth so, as above, all help is much appreciated.
Kind regards

Hi Kathryn, Any idea what the "D" stands for??
England & Wales, Death Index: 1916-2005 Name: Laura B Allum Birth Date: abt 1889 Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1957 Age at Death: 68 Registration district: Christchurch Inferred County: Hampshire Volume: 6b Page: 225

Maureen
Edit: Good heavens-I need a refresher course in refreshing! I'll just delete the 1911...
|
Hi Maureen, if you mean the D for Peter Edwin, it is a strange name and not sure it's spelt right but it's Dougdil, not 100% sure as I've never heard of this name before. I think we might be on the right trail with this family as you show that Laura died in Hampshire. I believe some of the family ended up there, but we do know for sure that Peter died there. Itching to get delivery of the birth cert now so things can, with the help of you all, progress. I remember when searching for my family sometimes I was up until 3 in the morning when there was a lead and then go off to work at 7.30.
Kind regards

Hi again, just to refresh my memory, when I find some more info is it right I just add to this thread and not start a new one. If my memory serves me well then I think in the past I've been told off for starting a new thread on an old matter?
Kind regards
Kathryn

Hi Kathryn,
Yes! Please do add anything you find to this thread and don't start another one. It makes it so much easier for us. (And you won't be told off,I promise!! ).
I did wonder about the "D" as both children seem to have that (John and Peter). It'll be interesting to see just where and why that pops in.
This is going to be fun! Thanks for letting us help!!

Hi Maureen, thanks for this further info, as you say it will be interesting hopefully once the birth cert arrives for Peter. I will, of course, stick to this one thread. If at any time I don't answer a reply it's just that Monday to Friday I work and don't get home until around 6pm or so.
Kind regards

Hi Maureen! Well done for finding out what that D stands for!
This is interesting:-
Marriages Sep 1873 (>99%) ALLUM Robert Manchester 8d 667 Dugdill Jane Manchester 8d 667
...........only one marriage for Allum - Dugdill, could very well be relevant as it is a rather unusual name, so could be worth keeping on file. Would be interesting to know if these two had a son called John!
...........also only two births for a Jane Dugdill born between 1840 and 1855:-
Births Sep 1845 (>99%) DUGDILL Jane Salford 20 887 ..........and Births Sep 1853 (>99%) Dugdill Jane Manchester 8d 165

I know I'm jumping the gun,but I couldn't resist!!
That marriage just had to be correct. Lots of work still to be done, obviously, and I still have no clue who Robert Allum was.

Hi all, my you've been busy, let's hope we're on the right track. When I applied for Peter's birth cert they said dispatch would be 30 Sept, can't wait, I do hope it comes out before then as I can see you are all itching to go. You are all so kind and I do hope that the research you've put in so far is not in vain but at the same time it is very much appreciated. You never know all or part of the above may fall into place.
I'll be in touch as soon as the cert arrives.
Kind regards
Kathryn
