Oh you are naughty Maureen.
So the 1854 birth record for Jane Dugdill seems to be the correct one.
I must admit that I did have a look too, after I found the marriage, but didn't want to post anything till the cert. arrived.
I'm off to England for a week or so on Wednesday so I may have to let you do the honours if I don't get back in time. Good hunting. Regards Catherine

Thanks Maureen!
Couldn't wait to see who those Taylor's were. Although everything seems to fit, so far, there is something bugging me, but I'm not sure what :-S
Never mind, it'll be alright on the night!

This death would fit with Samuel Taylor:-
Deaths Sep 1877 (>99%) TAYLOR Samuel 28 Oldham 8d 378
........but Robert Allum married Jane Dugdill in 1873, so maybe this is not the same family???
Now I know what was bugging me. Anyway, off to bed so it will have to wait another day. Catherine x

Hi all, apologies for the delay in supplying this new info, other half has unexpectedly had to go away and have had to organise a new passport and other things for him. Anyhow here is the info of the birth certificate of Peter Edwin Dugdill Allum. Peter was born on 23 March 1918 at 10 Baltimore Terrace, Barnsole Road, Gillingham, Kent. His parents were John Allum, occupation given as Master at Arms, Royal Navy and Peter's mother is given as Laura Bessie Allum formerly Williams, no occupation for her. They were residing at the place where Peter was born. This is all the info I have I'm afraid but hope that it is something to start with. I will not be around until this evening to answer any replies, so please bear with me.
Kind regards
Kathryn

So we now know that the 1911 marriage is correct. :-D
As the cert. confirms Laura's middle name as Bessie, I would think that we are correct with her info, but....................
................you now need to buy the cert. to check father's names and occupations. This will confirm if all the other info we have found is correct, or not.
I'm afraid you're in for another wait :-( Catherine

I do hope nothing is wrong,Kathryn.
Being extra-careful,aren't we,Catherine ? I understand the need for it. ;-)
Just to let you know I won't be able to post anything next week. Sigh. I don't think I need a passport to go a mile or so away to "house/cat sit" for OH's brother.

Hiya, thanks for your replies, I have spoken with my brother in law and he's paid for the marriage cert of John and Laura, fingers crossed this one won't take so long to arrive. Hi Maureen, no nothing wrong thank goodness, just a last minute jaunt to Canada with my other half's brother who has a house out there. Shame I couldn't go, not much annual leave left. Oh peace and quiet here though. You'll be getting withdrawal symptoms from not using a computer. Will post again once I've received the marriage cert when I'm sure Maureen you'll be back online.
Kind regards
Kathryn

Hi all, the long awaited marriage certificate of Peter's parents has arrived. This is what it gives us :-
John Allum married Laura Bessie Williams at St Paul's Church in the Parish of Beckenham in the County of Kent on June 5th 1911. John is given as being 32 a bachelor - Petty Officer R.N. addres 38 Blandford Road, Beckenham, father Robert Allum deceased, occupation coachman. Laura Bessie Williams is given as being 22 a spinster, no profession of 11 Monivea Road, Beckenham, Kent, father George Williams a verger. Not sure where we can go from here as to tracing the family back.
Will be checking my computer on and off over the weekend as we are having visitors so if there are any queries I will answer them, if possible, as soon as. I know when you post something you should stay on the computer but unfortunately am not able to.
Thanks for all your help.
Kind regards
Kathryn

Hi Kathryn,
Well-it looks as though "our" thoughts were correct.
Where IS Catherine??? Likely off wine tasting or making something into foie gras. :-D :-D ;-)
If you read back through the thread you'll see that the families are accounted for. We didn't spend too much time on Laura because she seemed fairly obvious. (I think! Heavens-it's been months since this started.)
You ask the questions -we'll try to answer.
Best, Maureen :-)

Hello, here I am !! Just looking in before I leave for England again.
Brilliant news, looks like all the info we found is correct. Don't you just love it when it all falls into place.
Oh Maureen, I must admit that I have been doing a bit of wine tasting over the last couple of weeks, but keeping the foie gras for Christmas (too expensive so we keep that for special occasions). I'm back and forward to England to look after my Dad now so don't always have much time to connect, but still like to help out whenever I can.
Kathryn, With the info posted you should be able to put both families together quite easily now, but if we can help in any other way just let us know.
Regards Catherine :-D
