Find Ancestors

Louis William Crottegini was born 1882 in Hull. He appears with his parents in the 1901 census as Louie Crottigine but seems to disappear after that. I cannot find him dying or emigrating between 1901 and 1911.
His parents are on the 1911 census as Paul and Ellen Crottogini.
Any help in finding what happened to Louis would be greatly appreciated.

He was a Joiner/Carpenter

I have double-checked 1911 and can't see him either. Can't help thinking he must have emigrated even though a record can't be found.
Remotely possible he is in Scotland i suppose!

No I can't find him in Scotland no matter what name variations I put in.

That 1911 entry is a bit odd - Ellen shows as having 1 child born, 1 child living - presume that is Thomas Moorhouse?

Maybe she forgot Louis?

I think she should mean Louis - the idea is to record children born to this marriage, and Thomas was born before it seems. But people didn't necessarily realise this it must be said!

I think she must mean Louis as in 1891 she had 2 Moorhouse children, Thomas and Eliza.

Not sure what to suggest now. No sign of him anywhere as far as I can tell. How frustrating!

I did try Louis Moorhouse in desperation - found one but def. not him, and why do that anyway!!

Who is Thomas Moorhouse stepson.Is it Ellen's son before marriage?

Paul and Ellen according to tree on Ancestry had Victoria Elizabeth 1884 died 1884.

So, if she meant Louis in the 1911 at least he was alive then. (Even if we can't find him!)

Perhaps he changed his name on outbreak of WW1? Not sure why as it sounds Italian, not German, but maybe some people were a bit odd about any "foreign" name.

Not that it makes any difference to Louis but I can't even find Paul marrying Ellen!!

Do you have them on the 1891 census?
Did they marry abroad?

Found them on ancestry as Grottogini in 1891, just trying to get a handle on them.

There's a sighting of Paul in 1892 in a trade directory available via genuki:

Crottogini, Paul ice cream maker and confectioner, 46 Myton Street; oyster dealer, 45 Hedon Road; fried fish shop, S east par, Holderness Road.

Hope he didn't make oyster flavoured ices....touch of the Heston Blumenthals! :-D
