OK lets see if anyone can help me with this, there has always been a story in our family that on my Mums side, the Desboroughs we came down from Major John, he married twice the first time to Jane Cromwell and had two sons and one daughter, this can be found on any site that has him on,or his brother in law Oliver Cromwell, but he married again and had seven children by his 2nd wife, all the site's will also tell you this BUT who was she and what were her children called, I can not find out or what sex they were, I have come against a brick wall on this.
The two sons he had by Jane emirgated to Amercia, and if they came back I can find no record, maybe I am not looking in right place
So any help would be lovely, as would like to put this story to bed
Regards Marj

Well, assuming we are talking about the well-known Oliver Cromwell, it's 17th century! i do not see any way someone can do this for you, at least no more than you can do yourself - the only way is to trace your family right back, quite possible but a considerablr undertaking. You have to work back rather than forward I think. jan

(snippet below from above link)
Desborough died in 1680. By his first wife, Cromwell's sister, he had one daughter and seven sons; he married a second wife in April 1658 whose name is unrecorded.

For what it's worth, in my opinion the prospect of tracing all these children forward is unrealistic, and nobody else will do it I suspect! Might be better to ask for assistance tracing your family back if you are stuck. Jan

the story in my family is that Oliver Cromwell is an ancestor - always referred to as Uncle Ollie!!!! could be quite a possibility and apparently someone way back in the family traced back to him - I am in Cardiff and Cromwell did have quite an association with Whitchurch where I live and all my family hail from - something to do with my maiden name Williams I am told

Hello Marjorie William Desborough, son of Edward & Sarah baptised St Mary's, Whittlesey 22 May 1769. He married Rebeccah Baker 27 Aug 1788
Edward Desborough married Sarah Hodgson in St Mary's 3 Oct 1763
They also had the following children:
John Desborough bapt 7 Jan 1766; buried 27 Mar 1771
Hannah Desborough bapt 29 Apr 1767; buried 30 Mar 1771
Hannah Desburg bapt 30 Mar 1778 (says in the register child of Edward & Elizabeth but gives mother's name as Sarah in the BTs!)
Sarah Desbury bapt 12 Oct 1783
Edward Desberry buried 7 Mar 1796
Sarah Desbura, widow, buried 12 Dec 1800
There is absolutely no mention of a Laurence in the registers for Whittlesey St Mary or St Andrew and there is little mention of the family at all before Edward and Susan - some children born in the 1710s and 1720s but most seem to have died in infancy.
I have the complete PRs for Whittlesey on CD, so if you need William's children looking up, please let me know. Pity I wasn't aware of this one last week, as I was in Cambridge, Huntingdon and Peterborough Archives and might have been able to assist. You could try asking on here if anyone has the Huntingdonshire and Cambridgeshire marriage indexes (there are also baptism and burial indexes for Cambridgeshire) - might help you to pinpoint where they moved to and from. :-)
Best wishes
Kim in Hull
