Apologies , I thought I had hit the jackpot, I did not realise you are with GR.
I had no idea of "Threads" until recent. Most of the above I have limited knowledge of through birth certificate if that is the one.

Can I get access to records like 3a 1617 in Genes ReUnited or do I have to visit the records office, If I do then there is a problem that I don't live in the U.K.

Gladys Cane may be wife, they had three children.
He was a General Manager.
I have a copy of my adoption records sent to me from the London Metropolitan Archives . Harold Frederick Marsh lived at Norfolk Railway House in Norwich at the time of my adoption in 1959.
Thank you for assisting me with my quest I need the guidance.

hi Marsha, not many of us awake at this time :-) and you are not an oldster by standards here - everybody answering is just a member like yourself, just friendly ... and nosey ...

to get the actual birth certificate that matches that entry in the index you have to order it from the GRO which you can do on line

to find Harold's marriage you search at freebmd

I did it for you but you will want to explore there yourself

then you click on the page number and you get the full list of names on that page and you see that she was

CANE Gladys L /Marsh Hendon 3a 1617
HILL Gladys L /Marsh Hendon 3a 1617

there is a question mark beside that entry that you can click to see why there are two names, the comment reads

'ENTRY READS HILL OR CANE FOR SPOUSE NAME'

so she had been married before probably, most likely divorced as a widow's original name is not usually mentioned

so since we don't know which was her birth name ( I think it may be the first one ) we can't be sure how to search for any children they had

at freebmd, search for births

surname Marsh
mother's surname Hill

and make the dates 1935 to 1960, say, in case they had children before marriage

obviously with common names like that there will be too many choices, so it's a matter of looking for births in the right area

I also tried Marsh and Cane and there are 3, all in Norfolk ...

aha, after I posted this I saw that Lindsey had found his death ... and I realized that was what you said ... in Norfolk ! so those are the births

oh, I got smart and searched for Gladys's first marriage

Hill Claude G /Cane E.Ham 4a 436

so Cane was her birth name and those births in Norfolk are their children

for births after 1925ish we won't put the details here since the people could be still living but you can find them at freebmd

now we still might not be sure exactly what you are looking for ... do you want to find his children ?

actually certifcates cost £9.25, and yyou order from th General Records Office (GRO) at the following address:-

You have to register, but it is free.



This is by far the cheapest, and best way ot buy certificates

Hi Lindsay
I thank you for all the information you have given and is the one I have .
It must have taken up a lot of your time and I appreciate that.

I do have Harold F Marsh birth cert. also his a picture of the Railway Hotel he was managing back in 1958.
I also have adoption records with his address details at the Railway Hotel in Norwich.
What I am really looking for is a picture of him.
I don't wish to contact any member of his family as I would hate to upset those who are not aware of him having another child. Unless they wish to contact me then they can through Genes ReUnited.
