Find Ancestors

Have been trying to find out when and where he (my gg grandfather) died. Found him in WH in 1861 census, youngest child born WH 1869, no sign of him in 1871 census but wife Fanny/Frances registered married and staying in Marylebone. No sign of Francis. Again in 1881 Frances is registered as domestic nurse in Knightsbridge and as married. On wedding cert. of son Frank in 1883 father Francis is noted as 'florist - dec'. Just can't find trace of his death anywhere and would love to know. Any help would be most appreciated. :-)

Oh thank you for the swift replies. I had already found this information, but I reckon that this is Frances (she was born in West Hoathly in 1837 and would have been around 33 at the time of the 1881 census) with her children. The person who wrote the details on the Census records most likely made a spelling mistake. In the 1861 census Frances is recorded as Sarah and Francis as Frances! Another strange thing is that apart from Frank Wing, I can't find any of his siblings in the 1881 census records.

Thank you jax for the above. Frances Wing was Francis' wife and she died on 19 Sept 1904 of cervical cancer age 66.

It is possible that Francis is not dead as early as you think


If he left the family around 1870, the children may have been led to believe that he was dead ............. but he could be living elsewhere, and even possibly with another family.

William and Walter Wing were born in Clerkenwell, Middlesex, according to that 1871 Census

Am going to order death cert of Francis Wing today and keep you posted, it may be a long shot but worthwhile to investigate. Very intriguing as his son Frank deserted his wife (my ggrandmother) and family when he was in his 40's - how peculiar (or not??). Frank hasn't left any trail whatsover, very frustrating.

Sylvia re Walter & William, I have a copy of the 1871 census sheet and William is indicated to have been born in Hamsted and Walter in Clerkenwell?? Either Walter was adopted or they were (twin) brothers - twins do run in the Wing family - born in Clerkenwell / Hamsted.

I thought Minnie could be Harriet but changed my mind.... there is another called Anne born at the right time and place so will have a look for her now. No record of a Minnie anywhere

Looking at the age, I think Minnie could actually be Frances Annie Wing, acc to IGI christened 28 Sep 1862, East Grinstead. Haven't found any further details regarding her.

Maybe they forgot to add the Frances to her birth reg

That is well possible, another birth cert that I may have to order to get me any further. Have ordered death cert of Francis Wing d. 1914. Will post result upon receipt of cert, could take a week or so before arrival.
