Hi Everyone
I am looking for a marriage that I beleive took place in Tennessee usa. I only have the name of the husband which is Garland May. He was born feb 7th 1920 and died March 1945 in the second world war. I know that he married my aunt Mary McAndrew Dec 1944, but he had a previous wife in the USA. I have to be honest and say I have no idea when he married his first wife. I think I may haver asked before but I am not sure. Thank you very much,. :-) Mike

Hi Michael,
I did a free search on Ancestry.com, and as I don't have a subscription cannot look at the details.....maybe someone who has a sub., might be able to help.
Tennesse Marriages 1780 to 2002
Laurice Garland May ....... County.... Sumner. Looks like he married a Minnie Carter.
But whether he is your Garland, cannot be sure.

Vera,
I checked that marriage out yesterday evening. Unfortunately I don't think that it is the same chap as according to the 1930 US census he was born in 1916 not 1920,

Hi Jan no the Garland that I am looking for was born Feb 7th 1920 and died 20th March 1940.
Hi Ginny I got the date of birth and death from his war records and his father was called collumbus May, if that is the correct spelling of his christian name and his Mother listed as Kate G May. Her maiden name was Erwin but I dont have a date for their marriage. Also at the time of Garlands death he is listed on his war records as living Isabella, Tennessee however Garlands mother is listed as living Gen Del, Alto, Georgia. Garland also had a brother called Albert May no date of birth. However when I looked on the cemetry listing I found a Luther G May born 3-25-1918 died 9-5-1975. Maybe his brother. The cemetry is called New Hope cemetry, Cornelia, Georgia. USA.
The McAndrew/Garland marriage was my aunt but he was married before in the USA. The Laurice / Carter marriage looks interesting but on the church records for his burial and the war records he is just listed as Garland May.
I hope this is enough information for you, Ginny .
Thank you for all your help all the best :-) Mike

A bit of conflict regarding dates. Above Michael gives Garland May's date of death as 1940 which would appear to be an error.
U.S. Rosters of World War II Dead, 1939-1945
Name: Garland May Gender: Male Race: White Religion: No Preference Cemetery Name: George Disposition: According to next of kin Service Branch: Army Rank: Private Service Number: 34499969

Dear Jonesey
the last bit of info that you have given with regards to the service number ties up with the service number that I have, but he was kileld in March 1945, so as you have said that was just an error. His mother kate May was listed as his next of Kin and then his brother Albert.
All I need to do now is find the first marriage for Garland, do you think there is much luck? lol
Thanks for your help all the best :-) Mike
