My nan was lilian sarah ann cox, on her marriage certificate she is named as sarah ann cox who married james alfred sadler on 30th January 1907 at windsor (2c 730).

James came from Sunningdale, and my nan from Egham.
I have my nan's birth certificate (Hythe Road, Egham) and she was living there at the time of her marriage - James came from Sunningdale and his father was James William Sadler.

James was born 1885 and Nan 1886 - only found out when starting the family tree that Nan had been married twice - to James in 1907 and to my grandfather in 1915.
In 1912 when my Aunty was born, my nan was listed on the birth certificate as a widow, and then in 1920 they had my dad, so I'm sort of on a mission to find out what happened to James and then came across this birth a few months after they got married - and Agnes is a name that appears on my Nan's side.

What are the details of your Aunt's birth reg'n?

on her marriage certificate in 1915 she is Lilian Sarah Ann Sadler - but her address 20 or 28 Hythe Road is the same for both marriages, and she is listed as a widow.

My aunt's certificate is:
Margaret Helen Pheby (my dad's surname)
20th August 1912 entry no: 355 Book No:11a in Maidenhead

I can't see a death for James...one must conclude that the 1912 birth was as a reslt of an affir..........

James may have died in WW1, thus allowing the second marriage to take place..........

I simply can't see any of them in 1911...........so I'm afraid the only way to find out is to get the cert

it's really strange that there are no records for James after 1907, and that by 1912 my nan was a widow - just thought she met my grandad and had my aunt out of wedlock (what a lovely old fashioned word!!) they then got married in 1915 (why the three year wait if she was a widow?) and then they had my dad in 1920 (who is nearly 91!!)

I will order Lilian's birth certificate of 1907 and see who her parents are listed as - watch this space!!

Yep, have both the wedding certificates.

Cox was my Nan's maiden name (father Thomas and mother Hannah) so why in 1911 did they say they were married??!!!

My nan was known as Lilian, but on her birth and 1st wedding certificate she is Sarah!! Her daughter Margaret Helen, was listed on the boat to Australia as Helen Margaret??!!!
