All 3 local offices accept credit cards.
The Chorlton registers are now split between Manchester, Salford & Trafford, depending on where in the district the birth was rego'ed.
(I think the Chorlton on Medlock subdistrict's regos are at Manchester.)

Salford
The Register Office, Town Hall, Chorley Road, Swinton, Salford, M27 5DA
Tel: 0161 909 6501. Fax: 0161 603 6892.
E-mail: [email protected] (on-line ordering available)
http://www.salford.gov.uk/bmd.htm

Manchester
The Register Office, Heron House, 47 Lloyd Street, Manchester, M2 5LE.
Tel: 0161 234 5555. Fax: 0161 234 5526.
E-mail: [email protected]

Trafford
The Register Office, Town Hall, Sale Waterside, Sale, M33 7ZF.
Tel: 0161 912 3026. Fax: 0161 912 3031.

use the link that both mgnv and I gave you. It may look slightly different but just takes you into a different point of the site. Mine should take you to the list of churches transcribed. Just copy & paste the link into your address line

Try googling registration districts for chorlton and salford, their should, hopefully, be email addresses for register offices for both.
I was fortunate in that "my" babies' births and deaths were registered at the same place.

there are images of burial registers and baptisms at several churches in salford and Chorlton cum Hardy (but not Chorlton on Medlock)

Joy Report 27 Mar 2011 22:41

I sent an email to the local register office when I wanted to just verify that a baby, whose birth and death registration was within a short time of each other, was a member of my family; the staff were very helpful and quick in sending confirmation.

There are a lot of (unindexed) Greater Manchester OPRs at:

https://www.familysearch.org/s/collection/list#page=1®ion=EUROPE

They're under
England, Lancashire – Cheshire – Yorkshire Parish Registers, 1603-1992
but, in spite of the title, it's really Greater Manchester.
