Thankyou! Does that mean that there should be a birth registation somewhere and that his birth would have been registered?

Would it have been the informant of the death who would give the date of birth at death or are they able to obtain this themselves? Would the registration district of death be able to help me with regards to a birth certificate?

Mike * Report 20 Dec 2010 19:47

His birth would have been registered but maybe not under the name Gold.
The authorities don't check birth dates, it depends what the informant tells them

LettyLoo

LettyLoo Report 20 Dec 2010 19:56

Do you think all four siblings would have been registered under the same surname?

That's okay, We all have a life of our own. Thank you for your input. Maybe I will be able to return the favour one day? Yes I thought that as well. The problem is no one seems to know the maiden name of mother and as you say Joseph and Rosina may never have been married and that Rose took the name Gold (1911 census)? for appearances. Who ever can get passed this brickwall I will come and pin a medal on their chest. Have a lovely Christmas and new year Fan and if ever I do find that elusive birth certificate I will let you know. ps if I could find one birth ref surely Ii can find all four?

Somebody suggested I might want to look at this too. ;)

(And my grandfather also believed all his life he was born 15 Dec 1900, until he retired and had to get his birth certificate and found he was born 17 Dec 1901. My grandmother was not happy to discover she was then a few months older than him.)

I have work to finish today for noon my Canadian time (it's about 8 a.m. now) but I'll be back! Just putting this here to make my mark and get it into My Threads.

The image of the 1911 which may, or may not, be the correct family shows that 2 other children have died.........and that 'Husband lives away'

Flick

Flick Report 21 Dec 2010 13:25

Can you say why you think that Joseph - occ Potman - is the same as Joseph - occ Carpenter - who was said (on the marriage cert) to be Harry's father?

FamilyFogey

FamilyFogey Report 21 Dec 2010 14:32

The 1911 census for Joseph states he'd had 6 children and two had died - same as that for Rose.

In 1911 the pub is just addressed as 177 Hoxton Road, in 1901 and still today that pub is called The Bacchus.

Frederick Edwin Gedge was the owner of it in 1901 as well as in 1911.

Flick

Flick Report 21 Dec 2010 15:02

So that probably makes him Rose's "husband", but still doesn't prove that he is the man named on Harry's 1931 marriage cert'

Who is the informant of the Joseph Gold's death from 1938? Do your family have any details at all about your grandfather's siblings? Any old address books etc?

And what about the Rosina Harriet's death in 1941 - you have stated this one as if you are unsure if she is the right one. Do you know who the informant was of her death? Does it state she is the widow of Joseph?

LettyLoo

LettyLoo Report 21 Dec 2010 16:38

Alex i have no Idea who were the informants of Joseph Gold's death in December 1938 (aged 70) , giving him a birth of about (1868) and Rosina Harriet's death in October 1941, aged 63, giving her a birth of about (1878).

The two census's of 1911 state Rose as being aged 32, being born abt 1878 and Joseph's age as being 42, giving his birth at about 1869. These ages would correspond quite nicely with their ages at death.

I have been unable to locate any index's regarding their deaths so am unable to order their death certificates which would certainly help in the research. All I have as a way of reference is photocopies of the memoral cards given at the time of their funerals outling their name etc.

Any chance of you knowing "where"they died please George?

How about these areas?

Name: Rosina H Goldstein
Death Registration Month/Year: 1941

Yes Flick I agree at the time of Harry's marriage in May 1931 he states that he is 26 year of age giving a birth of year of 1905 (maybe he was 28???). And who knows maybe his father was Joseph / Henry or Henry / Joseph?

I think that Joseph and Rose are connected via the close proximity to each other in the 1911 census and the exact information they gave regarding their marriage status and children born and died etc.

I think one thing is for sure a Joseph was employed as a potman / servant as per the 1911 and at the time son's harry's marriage in 1931 Joseph would have been nearing 62 year of age. Maybe he was a Carpenter in 1911 but correct me if I am wrong but was the Uk going through a ressession about that time leading up to the start of WW1 in 1914.

Hello Fan. They were both laid to rest at Islington Cemetery. East Finchley Church Ground. Death Dec 1938 Goldstein Joseph 70 Islington 1b 269 sounds promising. I remember slightly as a kid the name Goldstein being knocked around.
