Well,

I had my first breakfast nearly 3 hours ago now so I'm hungry again so I thought I would pop back in and see if there was any left !!

It does have it's advantages that so many of you are away - there is heaps left so I can make a 'piggy' of myself... yummm !!!!

It will be nice when you all come back though as it's a bit lonely in here.

Well what a day here !!!

Getting ready for first horse manure trip - bell chimes go - and two Danes are at my gate - asking for number of emergency doctor - his mother has completely lost the sight in one eye - told them that the doctor was in next village - and gave them instructions to whereabouts of surgery -

Oh then says should you have offered to go with them - so I run after them to offer - and anyway go with them - get to next village - see the Dr ( Luis) having a smoke outside surgery ( remember this is Spain) ask him to look - he says -no need -to examine - she need to go to hospital - now - it will be her retina - and offer me a ciggie

Now neither the son or mother (58 yrs) speak one word of Spanish - so I said go beck to my village - I will change and come with you -

So off we go - after seeing two eye specialists - they say her Retina has a hole in it - and fluid is going behind - !!!!

I ask if it is OK to leave until she flies back to Denmark on Saturday - and they say no - best to go to Granada hospital with their referral and results of exam - at 8.00am tomorrow morning

So at 6.45 am I go with them to Granada - the poor woman is rigid with fear

The Aunt of the woman s sons wife - is my friend - they have a house in the village - which they use for family - about 6-7 times a year - I keep an eye on the house - and use for my family and friends when they come visit me

And I have always said - if your family have a problem - tell them to come to me -

And today they had a problem and came

I have never felt so sorry for anyone in my entire life - can you imagine the fear - in a strange country with no language - She is a music teacher and she says if she loses her sight - she may not be able to work ------horrific

So will not be here tomorrow

Cooked a nice meal and I am half way down a £45 bottle of champagne !!

It was sitting in the fridge with it's twin sister and I thought 'what the heck' !! - I need the space in the fridge !!

SO - I opened it !!

Might be a bit late for breakfast in the morning !!

Oh Renes - You are SO good !!

In my job, over the past 12 years or so, I have escorted a great many people to hospital in Spain, all of them not knowing a word of Spanish and SO frightened.

Heart attacks, Angina, Liver failure, Head wounds, and the latest one I held her broken hip together in the ambulance while we drove at high speed with the 'bee bahs' going !!

I know just what it is like!!

The hospitals over there are BRILLIANT but I have to say, I was amazed when I went back to Barcelona in the middle of the night to pick up someone I had left there earlier with a head wound and dislocated shoulder - the receptionist was sitting there in her white uniform, smoking a cigarette !!

It is a different world !!

They are changing now though, whereas 3 years ago, every establishment was full of smoke, now they are, in the majority, non-smoking ! - They all have a sign outside saying 'Yes you can smoke' or 'No you can't smoke'

I really think that should be the case in the U.K. instead of banning smoking completely !!

Anyway - good luck tomorrow - hope all goes well.

Just a thought though Renes!!

Retina problems do not take kindly to being 'jiggled about' !!

Take care if you are driving her - perhaps you should be looking into whether she should be taken by ambulance rather than you driving her ???

I will have you know that I am something of an expert on Champagne and Cava (the Spanish equivalent) and I have a special 'bubble keeper inner' which will make sure that it is just as good tomorrow !!

If you are back, I may have to open my last bottle in the morning so we can all share it !!

I would like my eggs fried on both sides please Robert and the bacn first fried and then grilled to crisp perfection - just as the experts do it for maximum flavour and maximum crispness !!.... YYYuuummm !!!
