Find Ancestors

Sometime back all you wonderful folk helped me with this family and I found the children. I have now received the marriage certificate (1881 Hammersmith) as I am trying to trace the wife's family and needed the fathers name
Husband is William Carter b 1857 Poplar London
Wife Jane Armstrong b 1854 Scotland - Her father is Thomas Armstrong - a farmer, obviously from Scotland.
I do know she had a brother William born 1839 - SCOTLAND
In all the census I have found they were born SCOTLAND with no hint as to where.
Where do I go from here
Would love some ideas please

I wonder ??- there is certainly Thomas Armstrong, the father.

We cannot look up the occupations on the scottish census can we? On the 1881 census Jane is living with her brother who is a draper
Have just had a thought - if I got someone to check the 1911 census Jane might have given a more specific place of birth.

Hi Moody Blue - thanks for that info - is that from Scottish records - please just walk me through the info you gave me. Does that mean Jane Armstrong, dau of Thomas Armstrong and Jane Little (FR213 ?)
Is that her date of birth?

So far have not found Jane Carter born Scotland on the 1911.

I see from the marriage cert (1881) I have that Jane Armstrong was 27 but then on closer look it could be 29 so she could well have been born in 1851.
I had her DOB as 1854

in 1881 census William Armstrong was 42 so that could well be him. Have just noticed that he was double his wife's age!!

That is quite an age difference...... checked Jane Carter again with a different birth year on the 1911.

yes, these records are from scotlands people.

original entry reads:

Armstrong

Thomas & his wife Jane Little had a daughter born at West Craigs on the 14th August 1851 and baptized by the R. Norison, Called "Jane"

Unfortunately the details for William do not match the image supplied so have written to Scotlandspeople to see if they can correct.

I wonder if this is the Armstrong family I am looking for. I have a friend. I wish they had put down more than SCOTLAND when filling in the census.
Have just looked to see what Jane and William Carter's children were named - to get some clues

This ties in nicely with the birhs above as well as with Jane in 1881 census and her birth details. Would appear that Jane was a little flexible with her age?
