On the marriage certificate of Sophia and Alexander, what were their ages when they married?
I have also checked Digger Victorian Records and cannot find a death of Alexander

Amanda, Are you certain about this information.
Yes Alexander C Pratt was born in Scotland according to his marriage certificate, his father is listed as Alexander Pratt occupation Architect, mother's name Seymour Cameron
His mother does not have the given name of Harriet by any chance. I have put both their names into a Scotlands People search for marriages between about 1855 and 1880 and come up blank. I have put her name into Ancestry search and come up with nothing.
I put her name into the Australian Electoral Rolls for 1919 and it gives me Harriet Seymour Cameron living in Frankston Melbourne Victoria.
Just had another thought might need to search an earlier marriage date.
By the way in Scotlands People I did find a Nellie Cameron marrying a James Pratt, but discounted that one.

There is no Alexander Pratt registered as marrying Seymour Cameron between 1800 and 1854 in Parish Records or between 1855 and 1880 in statutory records in Scotland.
There are about 30 Alexander Pratts marrying other women in that time frame. I can post those names and dates for you if you wish. I have saved them to file.

Hi Aunty Sherlock, The Harriet Seymour Cameron is interesting, somewhere I have come across Alexander C Pratt traveling from Melbourne Victoria to NSW. I am unsure as to when Alexander C Pratt was born I would think possible around the 1840 to 1845 if Sophia was born about 1844. Where would he have imigrated from if he left from Scotland have you any idea Regards Amanda

Hi Aunty Sherlock I found the information on George Pratt the newspaper article is in the Maitland Mercury December 1881, Alexander Pratt had been the publican there since 1880. I'm beginning to wonder if Alexander was who he said he was I would think to be an engineer and travel to Australia he would have to have been over 20 years old and surely he didn't become a engineer then up roots and come to Oz straight away. I can find nothing that suggest his age everything with age on it saids Full Have come across a Alexander Pratt Nationality Scottish May 1855 vessel Ultima, could find no passport details for him either. Did he reinvent himself in Australia? Regards Amanda

Amanda. Do you have access to the Ancestry site. On that site there is a private member tree for Alexander CAMERON Pratt at the Mt Vincent Hotel. Because this is a private tree I am unable to see the details. I have copied the available info for you to see.
Private Member Photos Pictures Photo: Mt Vincent Hotel 2 Category: Place Taken: Mulbring, New South Wales, Australia Attached To: Alexander Cameron Pratt (born 1845) Private Member Photos Photo: Mt Vincent Hotel Category: Place Taken: Mulbring, New South Wales, Australia Attached To: Alexander Cameron Pratt (born 1845)
How does this fit into your knowledge and information.

Hi Yes I know that person who owns that tree her ex is my partner now and she is as baffled as me as to try and find out any details about Alexander.(where on very good terms) Not sure what information was needed in the 1880's to make you eligible to have a liquor license whether or not if there is information available if it would indicate his age and where he was and what he was doing when he came to Australia. What are your thoughts on that? Amanda

Have you tried googling Liquor Licencing Laws 1880s or whatever. There would have to be some legal gobblygook people had to go through in order to have a licence to sell liquor.
There is also a very good NSW government site.
http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/search?SearchableText=liquor+licensing
Whoo hoo try that little lot for a while. If you haven't already. You could also back track from that area and go through the general government site and see what is there.

Could very well be a mistake. Passenger lists are notoriously difficult to sort out . They just don't give enough information.
Also have you searced this site.
http://austcemindex.com/inscriptions.php
It gives all the Pratt family burials/inscriptions in NSW cemeteries.

Ooohoo Amanda, Do you have this little lot??
I know you said there was something about being the licencee of the Mt Vincent pub but I think this lot has him on a disorderly conduct charge in his hotel. Might be worth a read and might explain why he disappeared.
And something about damages to sheep!
Sorry I'm laughing. There is more as well, scroll down the newspaper items. I'm off to read all the goss!!
I hope the correct page stays in view because it was really hard to find. Just tested it and it opens fine.
Now we don't know which Alexander pratt this is. It is in the correct area and....
Alexander Pratt, charged with wife-desertion, was ordered to pay 12s 6d per week for 12 months to the officer in charge of No 3 Station.

I don't see the parents after 1861 but as you have an approximate year for their births you should be able to find their deaths on Scotlandspeople - assuming that they remained in Scotland. The death certificates will give their parents names if the informant knew the details.

Hi Aunty Sherlock and Rootgatherer Can you tell me where you found the information on the wife desertion if it is him it would explain why he has been so hard to find probably didn't like parting with his money. What year was that and does it say where station 3 is. I believe he also was in trouble for disturbing the peace I think on a Sunday still trying to locate what I did with that peice of information. I wonder if the information root gather has is finally Alexanders family did Scotland have census the same as England? Amanda

Amanda in that post I have given you a link. Highlight, copy and then paste the link into your address bar, click enter.
All that information is there. It is from newspaper articles. I have no idea where Station 3 is. I gather it is probably a police station in his area. It might be possible to search the topic more through newspaper articles.
