Mary, I like your line of thinking there! After all it was not uncommon for illegitimate children to be given the father's surname as a middle name - so why not his surname as a christian name?? |

My pleasure Mary - while I always like certificates to back things up, in this case it is not possible but my gut feeling is that you are definately onto something here! Very well done - you're like a dog with a bone on this one! Keep up the good work. |

You can see James Aubrey's emigration on Ellis Island. He did indeed go in 1908. He went from London and give a friend's name and address as next of kin. More details on the Ship's manifesto. |

I still can't see a birth at the correct time and in the correct place for either Charles or James under the surname Aubrey. |

Well done everyone, such a lot of info. You really have the "bit between the teeth" I will look at the photo's. I have looked at the info on line about Jimmy Aubrey, and he is described as 5ft 6" and its very funny cos my dad was not very tall infact he was only 5ft 2" !! |

I have looked at the pics can't honestly say I recognise any one in them. I wonder if any of his descendants are still in the uk. I will put out a search. I will catch up with you all later, must get the evening meal on the go. Ha |
