Hi Derek, another Measham poser for you. Any marriage details on Gilbert born 1761. Father Thomas(1758) mother Sarah Simpson. Thomas and Sarah married 1779. Got loads to sift through now as I have received a branch of the Measham tree from another contact and trying to see if I can find any connections so watch this space LOL. Best wishes and Many thanks.

Derek Report 6 Jan 2010 13:39

LindaB..Hi Linda (and Meercat..thanks for your input).
I can confirm that Thomas does not appear in the Shirley Baptisms....but I don't have records for mappleton. I haven't found the record on Amcestry thyat meercat refers to..but if it is a Public member tree I'd treat it with just a little caution.
What IS clear is the 1851 Census showing your lot living at 39 High Street Fenton Stoke on Trent: Thomas is a Labourer.

His wife Elizabeth is from Swainscott Derbys (not checked that one out yet)

Three children Mary Ann. George and Sarah.

Now then!..if you have any later Maskreys or Maskery's..here are a few Monumental Inscriptions that might fit in somewhere....

At MAPPLETON:

Samuel Maskrey 30.05.1943 (aged 69)
his wife Elizabeth 28.12.1934 (aged 61)

Thomas Maskrey died 01.02.1927 (aged 87)
his wife Elizabeth Ann d.09.07.1921 (aged 75)
Their son Albert E died in France 14.06.1917 aged 20 (very sad)

At SHIRLEY:

Thomas maskrey d.22.05.1872 aged 95 and Ann..
his daughter????? (could be wife i suppose) 10.05.1900 aged 69

Berrisford maskrey 09.02.1966 aged 89
his wife Reuanah?? 14.12.1950 aged 63

John maskrey 26.01.1929 aged 79
Hannah his wife 22.02.1933 aged 82

Iadd these, not to confuse you!!..but birthdates of most of these people fall within a period close to the sort of time when the children of Thomas and Elizabeth would be around.....

By the way there is another Thomas maskery b c 1809 at leek in Staffs (on Ancestry)....could be confusing, becasue Leek is very close to Stoke-on trent.

I'll keep digging (as well you know!!)

Derek.

Trying to find out if there is a marriage for Gilbert Measham who was born 1761. Gilberts father was Thomas born 1758 and his mother was Sarah Simpson . Thomas and Sarah married in 1779. All Repton of course !!

Trying to see if this Gilbert had any offspring that can tie me in to my tree. My source seems to think we have a link about then but don't hold your breath.

Hi again Derek

Firstly thanks for trying to help with my little mystery re Fanny Maria Makings/Cooper. I get the feeling both she & Ruth were born illegitimately. A relative has Henry & Elizabeth's marriage cert which give her father as a Samuel Cooper. There is a Samuel Cooper living in Ilkeston in 1841 with his wife Maria an a Betsy.

Secondly I've got another riddle. I've found BIRTH record for:

HUNTSWORTH, Agnes born 1880 in Derby
HUNTSWORTH, Clara born 1880 in Derby

I think they belong in my tree somewhere as I've only ever found one Huntsworth family living in Derby in the Census collection.

Agnes dies in 1881 - pre-Census.

Clara is my problem, can't find her on any records other than the birth. Just wondering if you have any info, though knowing my luck I woul be better off spitting in the wind.

Thanks in anticipation.
Joy

Derek Report 6 Jan 2010 23:14

Hello Joy....I suggested that Elizabeth was a Cooper......and can now confirm her father was Samuel
Agnes and clara Huntsworth were born March 1880..neither of them survived to appear on the 1881 Census....I can't get any further with them.. Sorry

Gooner..Hello again........I have no Gilbert Measham born 1761.........but can confirm that the GILBERT MEASHAM born 1747 did marry ELIZABETH STANLEY 12.05.1772.and that the GILBERT MEASHAM born 1776 did marry MARY MEAKIN 1801.
As i suggested some time ago..the only other Gilbert Measham of this period was from St,Werbergh Derby.

Thanks for looking Derek

Seems my Derbyshire relatives want to hide from me. Just a couple more queries.

The marriage of Samuel Cooper to Maria - think her surname is TUCKER that's what she gives on her second marriage.

TUCKER, Maria born c1809, Sandiacre - father JOHN TUCKER - Mother's name and siblings if possible.

Thanks.
Joy.

Have you a Gilbert born 1790? Sorry for hash up on last request I competely lost the plot. Had a lot of family stress lately but all getting better now. Any sign of children for Thomas and Sarah Simpson please

Derek

Derek Report 8 Jan 2010 00:16

Hi Gooner.have PM'd you............Gilbert Measham 1790..son of thomas and Sarah, does not appear on the Repton marriages up to 1837.........

But he is on the 1841 census married to a Mary (from the hundred of Repton and Gresley)........

BUT suppose he did not marry till he was 41 years of age?????????????? because as you know there is a marriage to Mary Ann Parker 13.09.1831......at Repton.........and the 1841 census gives Gilbert and Mary's first child Abraham as being born 1831/2..and THAT Gilbert is born repton c1791!!!!!!!!!!!
Have we cracked it??? It seems lke it was the Gilbert1790 who married Mary Ann parker after all.........

children;.......Abraham 1831/2...Thomas 1833..Louisa 1836..Julia 1839.

Gilbert, the father of these children is confirmed as born 1790/1..and Gilbert marries Mary Ann parker 1831......all at Repton......the 1841 census showing wife Mary and the four kids gives Gilbert c 1791 and mary his wife c 1796.

Thomas and Sarah were married 19.10.1799..and clearloy had other children before Gilbert, but i'll need Parish records for that......and they are distinctly snowed in!! at Matlock.

For oyu information only.other Measham marriages at repton:
George Measham married Ann Rebecca Ward 23.03.1826
William Measham Crisp married Ann Maddock 08.06.1828
Richard measham marriedElian martin 22.01.1808
James Measham married Ann Burton 09.02.1813

Have just confirmed the birth of Gilbert Measham son of Thomas ans Sarah 19.09.1790.

you're a lovable pain in the neck!!! xx

Derek

Please could you look for a Baptism of Samuel Maskrey born c1766 in Shirley.
His Baptism is not in the Shirley records.

His parents William Maskrey & Martha Slater married in St. Oswald's Church, Ashbourne 2nd May 1765.

Wondered if he was baptised in this church.

Thank you as always

Derek

Derek Report 8 Jan 2010 20:41

Hi Kathleen..these Maskery's are driving a couple of people potty! Are you working with Linda B/..cos she too is having difficulty...particularly with a Thomas maskery c1806.

With help from Meercat we have established that neither he nor your Samuel were baptised at Shirley.

Ashbourne is a nightmare to research becasue there are loads of small Parishes in and around the place.......and loads of Maskery's or Maskrey's

One such Ashbourne Parish is NORBURY......in which the following were baptised:

THOMAS MASKERY 12.02.1766
SAMUEL MASKERY 21.01.1770

both were sons of JOHN and SARAH MASKERY.........

It will need a trip to Matlock Records Office to sort it out, which ain't going to happen in the very near future without a Sleigh and Huskies!!

I'll keep looking.

Derek

Kathleen Report 8 Jan 2010 21:30

Hi Derek

No not working with Linda B, she said she is researching for a friend.

Samuel was definitely the son of William & Martha(Slater) Maskrey. All his siblings baptised in St. Michael's, Shirley except for him.

Samuel married Rebecca Rowlestone in St. Peter's, Derby in 1801,their children all born in Shirley.

He died in Shirley 1836 and is interred in St. Michael's Churchyard. Have visited it several times, just his baptism that eludes.

Thank you for trying to find it

.
Edit the Samuel born 21.01.1770 was the son of John & Sarah (Hurd) Maskrey. He died in 1773
Another son born to them in 1775 was named Samuel

Derek Report 8 Jan 2010 23:58

Hello Marion..sorry to keep you waiting..I accumulated all the information you already have, without realising you alreahad it! But no parents i'm afraid........it will need a trip to matlock records office once the snow has gone.if it ever does!!

There is a MARK FAULKNER botn 1796 Ashbourne..with a mother called Ann born 1764.......He married someone called Ann and had three children:

William 1821

Martha 1826
Hannah 1831.

There is no suggestion that this is a brother for Luke....but it is interesting that I have found a marriage for George Faulkner and Ann 10.07.1796.....who COULD !! be the parents you're looking for.

As soon as i can i'll find out the truth at Ashbourne......there are so many little parishes in the area!

all the best

Hi Derek.
Thanks for that. Have looked in all the obvious places on-line, but live in Spain, so it,s a bit restricted.
Actually have a photo of Luke,s 2nd wife Catherine Norman taken with her mother Sarah Coxon when she was about 4 years old. Not that that´s any help tracing Luke´s birth. Catherine had 4 sons with Luke,Matthew Mark,Luke & John which is why I thought that Mark snr might be Luke snr,s brother.
Grateful for any advice.

Hi Derek

I wonder if you might be able to find details of a marriage for me please. Robert Menter Baxter married Mary Jane Atcherley in Derby I believe, early 1883 or possibly end of 1882. Not sure which parish / church, but in 1881 Robert was living at 41 Iron Gate, Derby.

Thanks for any further info you may be able to track down.
