Here's something for you ladies..that will really drive you nuts11

Have ound that ELIZABETH FORD born Derby 1888 actually married a guy called Joseph Vaughan........so ahe is out of the picture......
However we think that Elizabeth A Adams married edgar Ward in 1919..Elizabeth A as in Elizabeth Ann???

Elizabeth Ann Ford was born in Willington (Burton upon trent RD 11) 27.01.1889.....appears on both 1891 and 1901 once as daughter and once as grand-daughter..of james Ford and Elizabeth................
In 1891 there is a son of james and Elizabeth aged 20 called William.and Elizabeth Ann......in 1901 William has disappeared..and Elizabeth is grand-daughter.
Parish records show her baptism 27.01.1889.............mother only called Ruth.

Ruth is unmarried and her name is BAMFORD!!!!!

oh joy!!!

Hi you two!
Frustratingly, I have been having trouble signing in today - it is only now that it has let me join in the conversation.
All the new info sounds very interesting!
I have a snippet for you - more children belonging to Edgar and Elizabeth A Ward: Ronald, Edgar, Phyllis and Eric (plus June who was on Dea's 1939 Census).
I am looking forward to hearing what is on Doris Vera's birth certificate.
I really do appreciate all of your hard work :-)
xx

Hi Anne,

I am surrounded by 10 + pages of print-outs on this which keep revolving around the Bamfords, Adams's and Fords !!!

I am goint to take a break until the morning but will be VERY interested to see what that birth cert says as it 'might' just add some of these together !!

It's beginning to look like there may well be a link between the FORDS and the BAMFORDS..I originally suggested that FORD was a corruption in some way of Bamford..............but it's simpler than that.........

I have confirmed that ELIZABETH A FORD's mother was RUTH....no surname given..BUT I have traced Ruth to Repton/Milton.. born 1865 as RUTH BAMFORD..appearing on various Census returns in the Burton upon Trent RD.....as I said earlier then, in 1883 marries JOHN HENRY FORD..and presumably..or possibly gives birth to ELizabeth Ann Ford in 1888..quite simple................BUT I actually have severe reservations..perhaps because its too easy..and because it does not explain why Elizabeth Ann Ford is living with Ruth's parents in 1891 qnd 1901.............
also...........somewhere between 1888 and 1919 she became ELIZABETH ANN ADAMS in order to marry Edgar Ward..and a marriage between Elizabeth and Williaam Adams just does not exist!...................I sniff shenanigans......even to the extent that Elizabeth was an illegitimate daughter of Ruth ..who never ever married William Adams and just took his name.......
Ok..its late.and I'm back in LaLa land..........but its worth throwing into the Witches Brew!!,,,,,,hubble bubble toil and trouble.............
Night night xxx

Hi you two !!

I am still working on this and had come up with the John Henry Ford marriage too but having looked into it I can't see how our Elizabeth Ann could be fitted in between these births of the children they had:

Births Mar 1884 (>99%)
Ford Emma Gertrude Shardlow 7b 522

Births Mar 1887 (>99%)
Ford Hannah Elizabeth Shardlow 7b 493

Births Sep 1888 (>99%)
FORD Frederick William Shardlow 7b 464

Doesn't fit with this birth which I had thought would be the one we are looking for?

Births Dec 1888 (>99%)
FORD Elizabeth Ann Burton 6b 337

I have some more interesting links which I have found but will wait until I can get them properly sorted or it will just confuse things further....

I think you're right Dea..well done....have to tell Anne off for telling us we were looking for a WILLIAM Adams.....I think the thing hangs together very nicely......you can put it together with my stuff on Elizabeth a Ford............and the Marriage Certificate will confirm it.......Brill x

I see that Elizabeth was pregnant with William when she married Thomas!!

Thomas Cowlishaw Adams was a nephew of the Cowlishaws..which means that one of his parents was an Adams............I may as well follow that through...
and Elizabeth A is definitely the one I have been chasing..
Dea, you're very clever xx

Hi Dea.........excellent..yes..I found Ruth Bamford's family..didn't realise her mother was a. Adams...and how sharp of you to pick up the neightbours..including the POUND family.which really takes me back to my first findings of the Bamfords!!....so the link was their all along..and another thing..if you remember the marriage to Harriet Pound..it means that the family of William and Elizabeth Adams that I found and then rejected..are also closely related............Repton/Milton/Foremark etc are all Burton District...Willington is close.....Ruth was from Derby..and the later history is in Chilwell Nottingham via John Henry Ford..is in Shardlow District.

I don't think there is much else to find...but I'm going to put it all together, and with the Marriage cert. send it all to Anne....I love taking these things are far as they will go..and producing as full a genealogy as possible
Dea..you're a star..thanks for you company! :-D :-D :-D

What?! I mean WHAT??!! Oh my goodness! Not a William at all but a THOMAS???!!! The name William was one of the few things that the family were 'certain' of :-(
Well you two, I feel terrible - I am so sorry for leading you up the garden path (and into the dreadfully overgrown maze of my husband's baffling family!).
No wonder I couldn't make head nor tail of it by myself.
I am carefully reading through it all to try and work out the families and dates etc.
Many, many thanks for all of your hard work.
PS And not a sniff of a gypsy clan anywhere! :-S

You are very Welcome Derek.

I did feel a bit naughty butting in on 'your' thread but I just got 'hooked' and then couldn't stop myself. ;-)

If ever you fancy a bit of company on any of your future exploits, please feel free to let me know..........

Ann, don't feel terrible about leading us in the wrong direction. I have thoroughly enjoyed working on this - there is so little on the boards nowadays to really 'get your teeth into' and I do so love a challenge.

Just glad we managed to get there in the end. (Unless, of course those certs show something to throw a spanner in the works! ;-) :-D )

I will leave you now and go and pester someone else. ;-)

Right..just when we thought we'd got it right......we didn't..There walways something wrong with dates of birth of ELIZABETH A FORD........mother RUTH.......
Ruth Bamford alleged mother of Elizabeth A FORD...married John Henry Ford in 1884..and had string of children by him..and could NOT have given birth to Elizabeth in 1888/9 or at any other time..if you look at the 1901 and 1911 Census for John Henry Ford and his wife Ruth..nee Bamford..you'll see whhat I mean.

So, actually, for the second time, and this time finally the BAMFORD connection goes out of the window.

IN fact RUTH FORD was born 26/12/1869..daughter of James Ford and Frances nee Clure...and did not marry until 1893 when she married William Curd.........in the meantime she had given birth to an illegitimate ELizabeth Ann Ford in 1889....and dumped her on her grandparents.......and by 1911 they had been married for 17 years had never had children.I wonder why?

I'll clean this all up and send it to you

Hi

I have been intrigued by the Ford & Bamford thread :-)

So much so that I went on a fishing trip of my own.

I found an Elizabeth A Ford b. Circa 1889 Willington daughter of James Ford aged 46 & Elizabeth Clure aged 42. JAMES AND Elizabeth had 2 children James b. 1885 & Elizabeth 1889.

http://interactive.ancestry.com.au/7814/STSRG13_2634_2637-0854/34573298?backurl=http://person.ancestry.com.au/tree/44155556/person/6202098675/facts/citation/7254830724/edit/record

I hope I have been a help and not a hindrance?
Cheers

Thank you Chrissy.....I do have this information..but i think I rejected it..even though all the action seems to centre around Repton.Milton. Willington............I have Elizabeth A Ford's mother as Ruth.........but I'll look at it again!!

Thanks again

Derek.

EDIT Yep..I know why i rejected it..in the 1891 she is actually a GRAND daughter...whereas on the 1901 she is now a daughter..if you look at the ages of James and Elizabeth..you'll see she is more likely to be grand daughter..........I also think that Ruth Ford was actuallly the daughter of james and Elizabeth..but need to check that again

Yep..if you look at the 1871 and 1881 for Ruth Ford born Willington..you'll see how complicated it is...........James and Elizabeth..are in fact James and Eliza...and who lokks like his second wife..and look at all those Clures..who are mixed up with thFords........you need a clear head! particularly as james Ford was previously married to Frances Clure!!

Thank you so much Derek, Dea and Chrissy for taking the time to help me. I think I will need a long lie down in a darkened room before venturing again into the murky depths of my husband's lineage :-S

Derek, I am really look forward to you explaining to me where everyone fits into the family tree as I am a bit lost with it all at the moment as there is so much (extensively researched) information! :-)

However ...... brace yourselves ....... I have another long-standing problem with my own family tree. So, if you can bear it .... in a few weeks time when everyone is rested ..... may I call upon your considerable expertise again? :-D

No.... wait .... where are you all going?...... don't run away ...... I promise it won't be like last time .... come back! ;-)

Hi Anne..I really have got it all sorted now.............provided that the Marriage certificate shows what we want to see....

In the mean time i am simply following parents and grandparents back as far as i can..and being prior to 1911..I have all the necessary Parish Records..

Just for fun..in passing.....Ruth Ford..mother of Elizabeth Ann Ford...married William Curd who's father married a Mary Isabella.(Till)..so though your husband is not directly related to that lady..because Ruth Curd (nee Ford) never had any children with William.....it would still appear on the family Tree..as I shall, in due course show you........
.and I look forward to solving another long term problem.........after a long period of utter boredom.this thread has taken off agaiin..Yippee............and i was going to leave!!
