Hello again Jacqui..................the mother of Arthur Edwin was in fact MARY ANN CLAYDON..daughter of William and Kitty...born and living at Parliament street Sutton..dated 27.04.1872 (born the 26th)

Kitty Claydon, of that address is the informant...........and interestingly the certificate is for the birth of one ARTHUR EDWIN SMEE.........which might open up a can of worms as to who the father might be.............bearing in mind that Kitty's maiden name was SMEE....So logically, unless the surname Claydon, has simply been missed off, it looks like the father is a SMEE....and the registration at one day old is quite odd too.

Firstly..going back to the WRIGHT family..I am somewhat thrown by CHARLES AMELIUS and his brother GEORGE.........so i need your help.........I have however found a family in Derby..in which the father CHARLES WRIGHT (1845) and his wife ELIZABETH (Birmingham 1846) have a number of children including a CHARLES A 1878 and a GEORGE 1880..............other children include Richard 1877, William 1866,and Hannah 1877...............only you can tell if this fits any templates........Charles Wright (and George Wright) are such common names..we basically have no chance without further clues...........

As to the ALLEN family..let's start with what I KNOW and can prove.........those who know me will tell you that I only deal in FACTS..supported by my own exact research............anything less than that is offered as a "possible line of enquiry"..or a likelihood. Often i will include areas of research from other trees which i regard as unproven..or tosh!!..I always make clear which category my info falls into....

Ok There is a family ALLEN who were farmers in Church Broughton, so, armed with the CB Parish records, I can certify the following:-

Eldred William Allen was one of several..in fact more than seven, children.and he was born 1891 Church Broughton. ( I have all the other children............the son of TREVOR ALLEN..baptised 20.02.1847 Church Broughton, and his wife ANNIE nee MORLEY boorn 1850, from Hollington.....They were married at All Saints derby 14.07.1868.......

As I said to you previously I have Eldred William Allen on the , the 1891and 1901 .and i have William Allen on the 1911 as a servant in Etwall...........

TREVOR ALLEN baptised 20.02.1847 was one of at least FIVE children of:-

SAMUEL ALLEN and his wife MARY nee SLACK..who he married 02.08.1838.
Samuel was baptised 08.01.1798 one of several children of William Allen and his wife Mary............
MARY SLACK was baptised at Barton Blount 10.04.1818 daughter of Richard Slack and his wife Mary..............Richard Slack was a witness at the marriage to Samuel in 1838.
You should notice that Samuel was 20 years older than Mary..and was something of an old goat..having previously been married ot Jane, by whom he fathered several more children.

I can verify all that has been given above..what follows is a guide line that is as yet unproven........


There is evidence to show that the parents of SAMUEL ALLEN 1798 were William (1748-1836) and Mary (1768-1843).. another 20 year old age difference!!...must be something in the water!!

William 1748 is likely to be the son of Thomas 1718-1774 and Martha who died in 1802.. and in turn..
Thomas is possibly the son of JOHN 1690-1739 and Jane..died 1744.........at this stage I offer the "likelihood" that these three generations are right..with the possibility of one more.......but I have to do a lot more work to be able to verify it.

If you think this is pedantic, then GOOD..because \'ve seen too many trees that have been copied en bloc on less evidence thn i offer here.........thus perpetuating mistakes............Pedantry makes accuracy possible.....

Sorry Derek, I think my PM sent you a curve ball, George Charles Amelius Wright is one person, I have pieced together family information from letters from my Grandfathers cousin Mabel Emma Wright to my mother – these tell me certain pub's in which her parents resided – and have since paired those with her birthday etc to be able to get enough help to piece some threads together. ( See http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1350003 ) - I have accidently put George's father down as Nottinghamshire rather than Northamptonshire - so Wright's have no connection to Derbys/Notts as I previously suggested. Though if anyone can figure out whatever happened to George's brothers I am very keen to find out.

As for your wonderful research on the Allen's...It seems to match as much of the data I have to date, I know my family on my fathers side still reside in CB, and Sutton on the hill / surrounding areas, so you'll have a treasure troth of information in your CB parish records, especially if they all turn out to be old goats !

Hello Thomas..I am now able to confirm the parenthood of WILLIAM ALLEN 1748.

He was baptised 07.03.1748 at Church Broughton the son of Thomas Allen and MARTHA nee PALMER..who were married at Sutton on the Hill 20.01.1745.....
I can also confirm that THOMAS ALLIN was baptised at Church Broughton 01.10.1718..son of John..(..and probably Jane.though not yet confirmed).........not bad eh??......I am happy that your earlier Allens were spelt Allin, because that is how the Church Broughton records tell the story..no ALL(E)NS before 1748...
I'm noe looking for a marriage for John Allin.....

Ok then Derek. I have Henry Terry born 1842 in Leeds. I know that he married twice once to Mary Creed and had 4 kids . Other wife was Catherine Bickerdike. they had 2 kids. I know his mother wwas Lydia Terry and nowt else about his parentage.

PS. Catherine Bickerdike married into my Richardson family from Derby which you have already done a bit of looking up for.

Hi Gooner............not surprised that you know little about the parentage of HENRY TERRY...........complicated........as ever!!

His birth was registered JFM 1841 Leeds.as Henry Terry...........

LYDIA TERRY was married at the Parish Church Leeds to one JOSHUA WOOD..a Shoemaker..son of Joseph Wood........also a Shoemaker........25.03.1845......now here is the fun!

The marriage certificate is of one LYDIA WALTON (widow) father JAMES TERRY. (Clothier)....

so the events go as follows: LYDIA TERRY baptised 13.11.1820 daughter of James and Hannah............1840 is knocking off somebody..maybe named Walton.and gives birth to a child in 1841.............she then marries someone called WALTON..her child Henry retains the name TERRY....and Mr Walton proceeds to pop his clogs before 1845 when on March 1845 she marries Joshua Wood..and has four more children.

On the 1851 Henry is shown as Henry Terry and the later children as WOOD.......Henry is listed as Shoemaker the occupation of his stepfather.

By 1861 Henry has gone, and there are now six children of the marriage......

In the meantime HENRY WOOD has married MARY ANN CREED at Woolwich St Mary Magdalene 21.03.1861...........God knows what he was doing in London, but by 1871 he is back in Leeds with Mary, and four kids, and he is a Newsagent.

You can take this all as Gospel, I've seen all the docs..............the only thing I cannot find is Lydia's marriage to Mr Walton..which must have taken place cos she was Mrs Walton (widow) when she married Josh the boot!! (!)

How's that for service!!!

Gooner.........have found the marriage of LYDIA TERRY to BENJAMIN WALTON ..AMJ 1844..Interestingly he died OND 1844, which raises an intriguing possibilty.
Don't forget she had a child (Henry) in 1841..and she must have been quite a girl to get two husbands within 12 months..........so was Benjamin the father of Henry and she married him knowing he was dying??????.then once he'd died reverted to te name Henry Terry.or perhaps she was such a fantastic seductress that she had Henry by a third man unknown..then got Benjamin to marry her and take on bot her and an illegitimate child.and THEN get Joshua to marry her AND take on the child Henry..........
Joshua must have known the history of the child because he appears on the 1851 as Henry Terry not as Henry Walton...........
If you want more potential scandal..there is a source...unconfirmed that gives Henry Terry's father as....Joshua Wood!!!!!
Only a Birth Certificate will give the answer.or maybe not.....

B......Hell!!..it seems that Lydia Walton gave birth to a son Benjamin in JFM 1845..AFTER Ben senior died............so took TWO children into the marriage with Joshua a few months later.................interestingly the 1851 has Henry Terry as son.....and the same family in 1861 has benjamin Waalton as step-son!!!
pck the bones out of that!!
