HI. Looking for birth record of Louisa Vincent-Thomas c1893, but surname appears to keep changing from above to just Thomas.
Any ideas please?

Freebmd does not like double barrelled names at all.

Try with Vincent as the second christian name.

But as Ann says,a location would be good to try and help you..

A quick look at IGI shows several louisa Thmas's...all with middle names, none Vincent.
On looking for Louisa Vincent there is ONE only at Waltham Cross 1895

As Ann says, more information needed.

Had the same idea as Viv, went at it census-wise first -- 1901:

Oh, right. Southampton. Not in 1901 (living in or born in), as Thomas.

I have death certifcate so pretty sure of date of birth. She also died in Southampton

Southampton is getting near Falmouth anyway.
And that is the census I came up with too..

If she was born at the end of 1893 she will most likely have been reg in early 1894.

Did she have the name Grace also?

She had 5 children, some were registered under her maiden name Thomas & some Vincent-Thomas

So who and when did she marry please.
Was she married as Thomas to a Vincent and thus the double name came about,or was she born as Vincent thomas?

Aargh.

The obvious explanation is that the children's father's surname was Vincent, and she wasn't married to him.

Why doesn't everyone just *give the information they have* in the first place??

**Please** tell us whether and when *she* used the name Vincent-Thomas!

Haven't seen the name Grace mentioned anywhere.

Her name was *not* Vincent-Thomas, apparently.

What do you have that makes you say it was?

Yes she was married to their father.

When you said they were "registered under" her maiden name, I had taken that to mean they were registered with her surname as their own, i.e. she was not married.

It's quite posible that her name was given as Louisa Vincent-Thomas or Vincent Thomas on the two births showing as Thomas, and the info got indexed as Thomas alone. Do you have the actual certificates?
