I have looked at the marriage for Peter Gardiner

Charlottes death was registered by her son in law, and the only details he has supplied as to her parents is
Father _______ Scotland, Sailor. No mothers details.

I looked on the censuses and found Charlotte and they give her birth as anything between 1793 and 1813 and in Clackmannanshire. However I could not find her in Clackmannanshire on the Old Parish Records.

There is one Charlotte Scotland born in Scotland during this period and this was in Glasgow to a Thomas Scotland, Shoemaker and Margaret Clark on 28 July 1805. It may be she was born elsewhere and moved to Clackmannan early.

You would need to check further for this.

Peter Snr and Jnr are both Miners and her father is listed as a farmer, All parents still alive by looks of things
Witnesses were a James Gardiner and John Adamson

This is all becoming a tad confusing

The Charlotte Fyfe death that I found had a William McCulloch as the person who registered it and then it has been posted by Kath that he was married to Margaret Paterson who was Charlotte and Andrew Patterson's daughter. So if she did not marry a Fyfe how on earth is her son-in-law from her daughter to her first marriage registering the death.

Thanks Jackie. So that marriage makes it look as if Andrew Paterson is still alive or more likely, the registrars were still finding their feet as it was the first year of registration.

Freewheel has found Charlotte as "Jess". She has been found as Paterson and as Fyfe. I am wondering if Mr Fyfe was the ONLY one that she actually married and that's why he is the only one named on her death certificate.

Ellen - She may never have claimed Poor Relief if her children to Andrew were adults when he died. It is worth a try but I don't know if the Poor Relief records for that area have survived or what information they would give or where they would be held, any ideas? - sorry I'm only familiar with the ones for the Glasgow area.

Can some one look up the Marriage of Ann Higgins Patterson 1865 Clackmannan who was with Chalotte Patterson in 1851 census aged 5.I've done the other ones .Marrying Robert Ramsay

Does not look like the right one in the census .no childrens names tie them to Charlotte

I put the name John Jess into Scotlands People for the 1861 census and nothing is coming up in the area of Clakcmannan. Now wondering if the transcript that is on Ancestry is correct. I do not have ancesty so not sure how it works
