Bookmarked this from Last July wonder if anyone has any further input. Know nearer to finding elusive people or confirming info added previously. Any ideas??
This is a previous thread that I have on this family BUT I am resubmitting as a new thread as I want to try and clarify what I have Old thread
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1070280
Info I know from census.
1841 Census
Richard Long c1780 birth Westminister Middx. Mary Long c1781 Lydia c1816 who went on to marrying Frederick Gay Henry 1c821? (calculated from 1881 census as 1816) Fanny c1832
IGI For Henry BUT year of birth 1827 also Marylebone - on all census they appear to live in Westminsiter Middx.
1881 Census
Henry LONG Head M Male 65 Westminster, Middlesex, England Orris Weaver (...) Elizabeth LONG Wife M Female 53 Nth Nibley, Gloucester, England Arthur LONG Son U Male 19 Pimlico, Middlesex, England Short Hand Clerk Edgar LONG Son U Male 16 Pimlico, Middlesex, England Clerk
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Source Information: Dwelling 15 Avery Farm Row Census Place London, Middlesex, England Family History Library Film 1341025 Public Records Office Reference RG11 Piece / Folio 0108 / 119 Page Number 3
Problem:- I cannot find any information on Richard Long or Mary other than the 1841 census.
On the previous thread it was mentioned that Richard was possibly Henry's grandfather BUT on the marriage cert of Henry to Elizabeth it says Richard is father and a Master Orris Weaver.
Any help or advise appreciated
Thanks Paula

if Henry was actually still only 64 on 1881 census he would have been 24 in 1841 which would have been rounded down to 20 giving birth year of 1821

Not sure but is it Henry you are looking for? In the 1851 census he is living with his sister Lydia Gay. DOB 1816/17.

I know you have seen this one but occupation is worded differently on FMP
I wondered if you may find a clue through his trade or the almshouse. Do they keep records?

On the north side of Rochester Row is a range of neat brick-built cottages, known as Emery Hill's Almshouses. There is a grammar-school attached to them. They were founded in 1708, to provide a home for six poor men and their wives, and for six widows, and also a school for boys. Opposite this row of almshouses is St. Stephen's Church, which was erected and endowed about the year 1847, by Miss (now Baroness) Burdett-Coutts. It is from the designs of Mr. Benjamin Ferrey. It is built in the Decorated Gothic style of the fourteenth century, with a tower and spire on the northern side, nearly 200 feet high. The church, which is most richly decorated and picturesque, will hold about 1,000 worshippers. On the south side of the west front is a group of schools attached to the church, which afford accommodation for about 400 children; together with a parsonage, or presbytery, a portion of which forms a tower surmounted by a quaint, foreign-looking louvre.

Christine thanks for the info. Loved the picture of the Emery Hills. So nice to see where you 4 x grandfather would have lived.
Victoria the Mary Fry is in the same area but the marriage is 1800 and Henry, son, was born between 1816 - 1821 so unless they had a load of other children may be a bit early. Although year would fit in with approx date of births - them both being about 20 -
I wonder how I would find out more info regarding this marriage.
Thanks you all
Paula
Thanks a lot

Hi,
I hope you don't mind but I have brought this forward from your original thread as I still think it is a possibility worth following in the absence of anything better ?
It would fit in with the Richard Long marriage to Mary Fry, and also with the following christening which I found at the time on IGI: (I don't know whether this was extracted or submitted and I can't check as it is not on there now - they 'rotate' their info every 6 weeks or so - some is taken off and some is added - Goodness knows why!!)
Henry Long, Birth/Christening, 1810 - 1830, England, British Isles Father: Richard , Mother: Lydia
Henry Long - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Birth: 17 JAN 1817 London, London, England .............................................................................
This is what I originally posted:
I have a 'sneeky' feeling that the Richard + Mary on 1841 will turn out to be grandparents !!
I have found this as a possible on 1851:
Richard Long Age: 49 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1802 Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Ann Gender: Male Where born: Westminster, Middlesex, England
Civil Parish: St Martin in The Fields County/Island: Middlesex Country: England
Registration district: St Martin In The Fields Sub registration district: Long Acre ED, institution, or vessel: 3 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 230 Household Members: Name Age
Ann Long 39 Richard Long 49 - - Orris Weaver !!!
Living at 18 Mercers Street?
Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece: 1482; Folio: 70; Page: 50; GSU roll: 87807.
Dea x
P.S. - I think that Ann was a second wife and his first wife MAY have been Lydia, so maybe wife no. 2 didn't want the children?
Dea x ...............................................
Unfortunately, I have been unable to find anything to prove this but perhaps someone else can?
I think we need to find a birth of a Richard to Richard Long + Mary Fry around 1801 and a marriage for Richard c1801 to Lydia and/or Ann ? - Maybe he never actually married Lydia as he would have been quite young at the time - around 16 - Not too young though?)

Dea thanks for the input. I did notice the info you put last time when I re-submitted my thread.
1851 - Two things the age of Richard being 49 and therefore birth of 1802 this would be 22 years out.
Also 1861 Richard Long was in Emery Hills Almshouse and a widower
The family always appear to come from Westminster although the marriage posted for 1846 is ihn Lambeth
Thanks for looking. I shall check familysearch again for any possible information
