Guess this is wrong family as I know for sure that Agnes Ellen (known as Nellie) was born in 1894. I think her brother, William, was a little bit older than her but not 100% sure. I also think they lived in Dawbers Lane, Euxton when they were young but again not certain. |

On the 1891 census they are living in Daubers Lane !! |

William and Francis's daughters were Dorothy and Eva. Both were born in Chorley and Dorothy being the eldest was probably born c. 1925 and Eva a couple of years later. Hope this helps |

Might this help at all - Agnes Ellen married Albert Bosher in Chorley. They had two sons (cousins to Eva and Dorothy) The sons were called Arthur and Frank born c. 1924 and 1923 |

What do you think Heather? Am I just clutching at straws here? |

No 99% sure there wasn't a Hilda in the family. 99% sure too thare was only Eva and Dorothy. Maybe Eva was christianed Eve or Evie? |

THank you all for trying so hard to find info. It's so difficult when I have so little to go on. I feel sure that Eva was not called Kathleen but again it's a possibility |

I have some records of a Hodgkinson family in Euxton and they show the family moved to Chorley but unsure if it's my Hodgkinsons. It lists the daughter as Elizabeth A Hodgkinson but I am sure my grandmother was called Agnes Ellen. Could this be her? |

My thinking re Hilda was that she was born 2 years before Dorothy, so basically Hilda was never mentioned (or remembered) |

Choccy how sad to think no-one remembered your mother's younger sister. Maybe the same happened with Hilda then. The only reason I believed that Agnes and William were born in Euxton comes through some records I was given but now I start to think they are incorrect. Could it be the Hodgkinson family always lived in Chorley? Are there any records you have access to to show a Hodgkinson family in Chorley with a son William and a daughter Agnes or Ellen. born 15/09/1894 |

You need to work backwards. Not sure if a maternal/paternal grandmother, but birth certificate of your mother/father would give her correct name (unless of course she never used the name she was given on registration). If you have a copy of your grandmother's marriage certificate that will at least give her father's name and occupation, which would be something to look for in a census. |

That is the marriage so maybe she was called Helen!! Or it might be a mistake that whoever wrote the entry assuimed she was Helen and just dropped the H when she spoke as she was a Lancashire lass after all!!! |

If you haven't got Agnes Ellen's birth cert, perhaps you ought to send for it - if the Chorley connection is correct, this is probably it. |

Don't know if it will get us anywhere, but this is the marriage of Elizabeth Swarbrick (spinster)(!) and William Hodgkinson's father. |

Thanks again for your help - certainly given me something to think about regarding family members - just wished I'd asked a few more questions when people were still living!!!!! |
