Chris?
Seems the Scots are like the Irish and lose track of years.

:-D :-D

Edits
I am a little lost now,but will catch up..

Still sorting this one in my head so could be some time... :-(

Have deleted my 1901 as Chris has the correct Hector and Christina by the look of things...

I can understand it will take time Fans..........lots of space there for the ideas to swim about it !

There is just SO much information on this thread that it's impossible to keep track of it all. I've tried to list which pages various searches are on - maybe I should post the precis again. :-S

So Christina is Marys sister from 1911 and Mary has young Donaldina there in London with her....Quick connection there Chris ,well done...

And well done for the D M Leod spot on 1911 Quoy.

Have to follow up Dolly/Robert/David Macleod and co as well after this lot I suspect..

Hello again everyone, sorry not to have posted for a while, have been a bit under the weather, but O K now.
Well the dratted Diane still manages to remain hidden, she must have been born at some stage, I wonder why she wanted to hide the fact, what is the mystery, how I wish I could have a five minute conversation with her.
Many thanks to you all for your interest and help
Love to you all

Evelyn.
Console yourself with the fact that even if you were able to have 5 minutes with her, she probably wouldn´t answer your questions. Anyone who has covered their tracks so successfully would be unlikely to spill the beans.
We´ll just have to keep looking.
It´s become an obsession with me. Every site I go to I look for a Macleod link.

Evelyn Report 4 Sep 2012 13:41

Thank you Marion,it makes me wonder what Diane was trying to hide, she was quite a snobby person, perhaps she had dillusions of granduer and had come from very poor beginnings, though as I have said previously she must have had a good education and was knowledgable on lots of subjects, she spoke beautifully and was not inclined to drop her Hs.
Whatever her roots were, however bad ,she was not responsible for that in the same way that I do not feel responsible for the fact that she told so many porkies.

Evelyn.
My mother was exactly the same. Very snobby......think Hyacinth Bouquet.....well spoken, always eager to put everyone else right & never missed an opportunity to tell everyone she had a private school education & as I think I have told you before, there is something "not quite right" about her family too.My brother & I always say that she makes Hans Christian Anderson look like an amateur.
As you say, she wasn´t responsible for how she came into the world, but I think that during the inter war period, people were a lot more secretive than they had been before, or were afterwards.
Keep smiling.

don't forget that English education was, in general, very good in the years from about 1900 to WW2.

Even though people left school at about the age of 12, they had excellent groundings in the basics ........ and speech was often included.

Scottish education was considered even better.

My parents both left school at 12, after having completed the required number of days attendance. But, like millions of others, they never stopped learning.

They always read newspapers, we had a couple of reference books at home ...... not many novels ..... and were vitally interested in all that was going on. I think that was very common ........ night schools etc were there for everyone.

Looking back, it is quite amazing how much they knew about "things" ....... events, how machines worked, just plain general knowledge, etc etc

Plus it was quite possible that Diane paid for elocution lessons after she became of an age to have money .... tha'ts if she was trying to move herself up in the world.

Just seen a post on Living Relatived board from "Theresa with Irish blood in me veins"
Nothing to do with your family Evelyn, but she refers to a relative as Christina Known as Dinah????
I wonder if this was a common pet name for Christinas.

Evelyn.
Hope you are OK.
It´s been vety quiet on this board for 2 weeks.
Everyone on holiday??

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 17 Sep 2012 07:53

Hi wisechild,

I don't know how Evelyn is as I haven't heard from her since she last posted. Must do a check and see that she's okay.

I don't think the quietness is due to the holidays, I think it's because we're not sure when to turn next.

Haven't a clue as to whether Dinah is short for Christina or not to be honest. The only part of our Diana's name that we're fairly certain of, is the Leslie bit. She was very specific about that according to Evelyn. But....Leslie as in a man's name or Leslie as in a surname or Leslie in Fife?????

What does anyone else think about Christina/Dinah?? Possible?

Where next folks?

wisechild

wisechild Report 17 Sep 2012 12:35

Thanks Cynthia.
Where to look next? 64000 dollar question.
Beginning to feel pretty sure that she lied about her age too. So many things just don´t add up. :-| :-| :-| :-|

Hello Everyone,
I am still alive and kicking though rather sad as I have lost 2 dear friends within 3 weeks of each other, both to the big C, this of course reminds me of the horrid year I had last year watching my beloved Mr Grumpy suffer with the same outcome. At the moment folk seem to be dropping like flies soon I shall have no friends left, guess I need to shake my feathers get on with life and think of other things.
I hope you are all well and happy. I would be a lot happier if we could solve the puzzle of Diane, the woman of mystery, I just do not know where else to look for any clues, every one of you have been so helpful in trying to solve the mystery and seem to have left no stone unturned and still the darned woman has beaten us.
Must have some lunch, tummy rumbling
Much Love

wisechild Report 18 Sep 2012 14:28

Hi Evelyn.
Good to know you´re OK even if a bit sad. When friends start popping off, it makes you aware of your own mortality.
Have a Mr Grumpy of my own at the moment & he´s only had a hernia repair.
You´d think it was major surgery.
So I´m keeping my head down & spending as much time as possible quietly on the PC.

Hello Evelyn..... :-D

So glad to know that you are still alive and kicking!! All I can think of at the moment is, perhaps, for you to look through any papers you have on your mum - maybe old photographs - anything from back then. Sometimes things just scribbled down can shed light on a mystery.

Stay well dear friend........ :-D
