Just seen Jansmith´s post. Do you think she was Donaldina? I wouldn´t fancy going through life with a name like that & Diane is not so far removed. Neither is a bit of poetic license with her age.

Diane died in July 1952 in Weymouth so could not have been this Donaldina who lived quite a lot longer. Dianes death was registered by my father, HRJ Roy
I honestly believe mothers name was one she chose for herself otherwise surely she would have been traced by someone after all the searching that has been done, she married in the name Diane Leslie Macleod as I have the marriage cert

Just a thought Evelyn. No intention to offend. Obviously you know your family better than I do. Seems like everyone is clutching at any clue they can think of. Hopefully you´ll get there eventually.

No offence taken wisechild, any suggestion is gratefully received. I really think she was never D L M. I always thought it very strange that she never mentioned her mother,I wonder if she died in childbirth??. I know mother told lots of fibs as I stood many times and listened while she told people things that I knew to be untrue, most times quite unnesscessary lies, she just seemed to thrive on lies. In my opinion she should have written books as she had a wonderful imagination. Thank you so much for your interest and help I appreciate it Kind regards Evelyn

I know that many Donaldina's, Dolina's, Dolinda's etc. have been looked at but nothing has hit the mark as yet.
I wouldn't have wanted to be called Donaldina either! Nor Hectorina or any of the other ina's apart from Georgina.
Jan, the Robert you posted died in 1948 - at a ripe old age! Diane states her father to be deceased when she married in 1929.
One of the main drawbacks of all this, is the fact that Diana seemed to enjoy telling fibs........which isn't at all helpful :-S
The one name she was slightly passionate about was Leslie. I wonder if that's where we should concentrate our search for a while?
Am just going to take a look at those links Jan.....thanks.
As for Gwendoline G-F, it does indeed look as though she was a nun as the Sisters of Charity are a religious order devoted to doing good works.
So far, it looks as though none of Christophine's daughters married so the line must have continued through her sons.
On we go............

As well as insisting Leslie was spelled that way she insisted that she was Mac and not Mc Leod.. Oh how I wish we could trace her, I hate not knowing my roots. F B G found all my Dads family for me, she is a gem. You have all been so kind to me on this thread. Thank You

this hopefully opens the list of names and shows a "Diane unknown"!!
wonder if it might be worth sending them a message on the site to see if they have any idea about your family connection to the area

Hi Jan, I am now cross-eyed going through that link. I googled Gravir which is where 'Diane' is under and it's really interesting.....occupants of the various crofts but, for the life of me, I couldn't find a Diane. I did, however, find a Duncanina.......arghhh.
I will send them a message on Evelyn's behalf to see if they can shed any light on things.
The various Croft sites were really interesting with lots of photos etc. An absolute boon for anyone looking for connections up in that area.
Thanks again. Will obviously keep posting on here.
Please.....keep the ideas coming....

Cynthia or you going to do that then Jan?..I am not good with sending emails, its the wording that Im not good at....
Now phone calls I can and have done LOTS of and did manage to get the fact that she worked at Springfield Hospital but alas no record other than her name as a member of staff and the dates she worked there, plus merry h*** getting a will for a Robert Macleod after numerous calls to some Sheriff in Scotland, who was most helpful at the end just to get rid of me I think,as was the Head of Springfield Human Resourses but it was def not her father... :-D

I had a quick look at Heir Hunters this morning and thought of Diane.
A lady had died at supposedly the age of 54 when, in fact, she was actually 84. She had kidded people about her age for a long time but the truth was discovered by unearthin some wartime record. Long story but interesting!

Maybe give or take a few years with Diane, but I know that up until 1952 when she died she was having her monthly periods.

I´m getting hooked on this too. Just been looking at the marriage entry on Ancestry & noticed that there are 2 more MacLeod entries within a couple of years & fairly close by. Could they be relatives do you think? Alexander D MacLeod m Dorothy Poynter 2nd quarter 1929 Hammersmith & Malcolm D MacLeod marr Bertha Talbot 2nd quarter 1932 Pancras. Marion
