I am looking for Henry William Lucas born St Luke, Finsbury in period 1840-1850 and any reference to his father Thomas Lucas, also born in St Luke district. |

I may have an explanation for the absence of Thomas Lucas as head of household in 1851. A Thomas Lucas was found guilty in May 1844 at the Old Bailey of stealing in the Islington area and sent to Australia for 7 years. He may have then died before 1861 which is why Sarah Lucas is howing as a widow. |

It has been a few years since I started this thread. The issues that I still need to resolve are: |

I can add an update to say that I am not a descendant of Thomas (shoemaker) and Sarah Lucas detailed below. This is after some further research on Sarah and Thomas Lucas and talking to a GR member who has this family on their tree. |

After some help from another GR member I can say that I am not a descendant of the Thomas Lucas and Rachel Parsons who were living in St Lukes in 1841. |

The Thomas Lucas transported in 1844 was unlikely to be the father of a child born 1846/7 unless Henry William was a little older than you thought. |

Given that names are very very often transposed, have you considered this birth? |

I have got the birth certificate for that one and it is not mine - Father's name is Philip Lucas (Last Maker) and mother Mary Ann Jackson |

Going back to the 1847 OCt -Dec birth cert of William Henry Lucas in St Lukes. he was born in Great Arthur Street which is close to other addresses such as Anchor Yard where he lived in St Lukes. Except for the wrong father's name it would definitely warrant further investigation. |

This William Henry Lucas is down as William Lucas in the 1861 census living with his parents |

I think we can eliminate him from our enquiries: |

So the only Lucas family mentioned that I have not elminated is the family of Ann and Thomas Lucas living in Marylebone in 1851 census - details above. |

Just to be clear, I still need to eliminate the Henry Lucas from the following family in the 1851 census: |
