Peter

I have to agree it is very strange, im kind of wondering if they did marry

Peter

Peter Report 21 Feb 2009 20:52

Sorry Julie,

I sent my first response before I realised you had added more info.

In the 1911 census, it states that Elizabeth Isabella Martha was then married (for 8 years) to Albert James Purkiss who had had a daughter, Louisa, Elizabeth also had with her Willie, Florence and Eva. Louisa's step brother and sisters)

As James Breeze died in 1900, I must assume they married (if indeed they did) in around 1894.

Regards,

Peter

The problem I find is that I can't find eithert marriage (James or Albert)!

Peter

Hi Sablon,

Thanks for your input.

You have found both Elizabeth's and James' birth dates.

As I said to Julie, I can't find eeither marriage for James Breeze/Elizabeth Stead or Albert Purkiss/Elizabeth Stead

Peter

Could she have previously been married for a short time?
In which case you woould not be looking for a marriage with a maiden name.

Hi BoroGirl,

Thanks for looking.

Did you also notice that there was a Charles W Stead married to May E Wilson in Medway (2a: 1549) 1916

In the 1881 census Charles was named as Charles R W Stead.

Could the Medway (bearing in mind they are living in Chatham) Charles be Elizabeth's brother?

What do you think?

Hi BoroGirl,

Elizabeth had two sisters, Alice A and Lavinia Harriet and a brother Charles C W

I notice that there is a Charles W Stead married to May E Wilson 1916 Medway (2a: 1549) could this be him bearing in mind they all lived in Chatham (Medway)

Hi Christine,

In 1891, Elizabeth was just 16 years old.

If she was married prior to both Smith & Purkiss, how will I know,? It all takes place between censuses!!

Perhaps I should be looking for Elizabeth Smith for the marriage to Albert Purkiss?

I'll have a look

Peter

Hi Peter its likely to be Medway if they lived there
can't find that one on freebmd

I did find this one

Marriages Sep 1908 (>99%)
SMITH Elizabeth Isabella Barnet 3a 699
SMITH Owen Barnet 3a 6

which is why I asked about James Smiths brothers

I looked for the smith/purkiss marriage i didnt find it
its unlikely she was married before she was sixteen isnt it

Peter

Hi BoroGirl,

It is really freaky that you found an Elizabeth Isabella Smith, however, she was 'married' to Albert James Purkiss at that time or she was certainly giving birth to his child - Louisa May Purkiss (October 1908) Sheppey 2a: 983:
