Hi Ann-Elizabeth,
I do not know if you would be able to help me with this part of my family would really appreciate any help or advice.
My grandfather Joseph Porter was born on 27th Feb 1910, his father was down as Aubrey Porter and his mother was Elizabeth Pearson Long, my grandfather left my nan in the 1940's and cannot find a death or anything for him. My great grandad Aubrey was born in c 1881 do not know where he married Elizabeth Pearson Long on the 12th November 1904 at the Registry Office in Carlisle Cumberland named as Henry, his occupation at the time of marriage was a private it says Bugil army medical corps his father was Henry Porter deceased and his occupation was foreman in Jam Works Factory.
Aubrey Porter (Henry) i have not been able to get any leads on him he was living at the Castle in Carlilse at the time he married in 1904.
I have spoken to the Castle in Carlisle and they can't find any record of him.
I ordered a birth cert for a Sydney Porter born 4th November 1917 and got lucky as this was a sibling of my grandfather's who i was lead to beleive was an only child his father was down as Aubrey Porter and mother Elizabeth Pearson Porter nee Long and this time Aubrey was still in the army it looks like R A M C flying Corps and then it has postman underneath. The address given was 1 Collingwood Street in 1917 which was the family home of Elizabeth when she was young.
If you could find anything i would be most gratefull, sorry it so long winded. the only other thing i know is when i spoke to the Castle in Carlisle they said he was probably born as Henry Aubrey Porter 1881 but known as Aubrey as his father was named Henry.
Thanks again Paula

Hi Ann-Elizabeth,
Thanks for your reply yes that is them, i have not got the birth cert's for the 2 above as what i did was order the one for Sydney Porter as he was the last one i could find who may have been from the right family.
The census you put up above is where the family were living in 1926 because my grandfather enlisted in the Border Regiment and gave that address as his home and also Sydney was born there.
I am as baffled as you been trying for over 7 months now to find out about what happened to my grandad Joseph as my dad does not speak about him and i have no-one to ask.
I have looked on the Scottish site also as i know we have Scottish relatives so maybe Henry (Aubrey) came from there i just do not know how to move forward from this.
Thanks again and i will check later to see if you find out anything your help is much appreciated, as i can not get out much due to ill health and the members on this site like yourself have gave me a lot of advice and help. Thanks again for your time Paula
