William Tully born c1849 parents listed as Joseph Tully & Favonius Fovye. William states he was born in Spennymore, on William's Death Cert Joseph is noted as a Botanist, but on William's Marriage Cert he is a coalminer. Can anyone find William with these parents on a Census ? |

What other information do you have? Who did he marry and when? |

Have info on him after marriage, looking to find his family before marriage. He married Sarah Jane Scott on the 25/02/1868 Reg Office Auckland, his age was listed as 19 and occupation Fireman (worked in Mines). Unfortunately do not know the actual birth date. He was living at South Church Co Durham at the time of Marriage. |

is this him in 1871 for reference-- what evidence do you have of his parents names of joseph and Favonius, i have had a good look around but i dont seem to be able to find William with his parents, also done search on Favonius in different formats but nothing comes up only thing is that this seems to be used as a male name |

Yes, Tracy, that's all I could see also. Where did you get his mother's name from, Fred? |

No Wild goose Chase. That is the names given on the Death Certificate!!! and marriage certf has father as Joseph a coal miner, however on Williams death certf he is a botanist. I have searched with out success as well. |

Sylvia, thanks for the info on the botanist bit, seemed strange to me, but your explanation might be the answer there, as it was William's son that supplied the info on the death certf., and since he was an infant when they emigrated to Australia he probably never met his grandparents. Seems to be the problem that once they emigrated to Aus they never spoke about their families back in England. |

I did not realise they had emirgrated no mention in any posting till now ,that is why i cannot find any of them on later census, maybe his father had previousley been abroad before he was born and thats why we cannot find him with his wife. |

Still have not found out anything more on William with his parents. Beginning to think that despite it saying on his death certificate that he was born in Spinnamore (Spenny Moor??) England, that with the name of Tully, and with his mother's name being Favonius Fovye that maybe he was actually Irish or possibly Scottish??? I know Tully can be an Irish name, but any ideas on Fovye. |
