There's this on Rootsweb:
From: John Buxton Subject: RE: [PJ] Another convict - German Buxton Date: Wed, 29 Dec 2004 18:18:22 +1100
Thanks Lesley,
He came from a family of miners. It appears he had a son who went to England and was involved with running a mine with my gggrandfather. Sutton History indicates he was here:
...The 'History of Sutton-in-Ashfield" by L.Lindley, 1907 has this to say about German on page 47. "The property owned by Mr J. Hayes, butcher, was totally rebuilt a few years ago, and on this site formally stood a little shop which was occupied by Mr. James Jackson , and afterwards by Mr. German Buxton, who, after making a fortune in Australia, settled in Sutton, taking an active part in local affairs and serving on the local board for some years..."

hi thanks for that info german 1785 was born in alfreton, he married elizth henshaw b1791c and had a daughter elizabeth 1816 both elizabeths born ilkeston derbyshire. i believe germans parents where samuel buxton 1748c and ann poss fox. after he got sent to australia for life he wrote letters to his family and wife but apparently got no replies so i dont think when he got full pardon in 1830 that he returned to elizabeth and think she may have even remarried???

With ref to Margaret Manson's posting about the history of Sutton-in-Ashfield.
From 'Mining in the East Midlands'.
In 1855, Lady Carnarvon leased her Molyneux Colliery to John & German Buxton, tradesmen of Sutton-in-Ashfield. ...... German Buxton left the partnership after a short time ....... John Buxton left the partnership in 1865.

I know this is a roundabout way of doing things but John Buxton should be a son of German Buxton, if he is a brother to German jnr, & involved in a coal mine. I'm trying to match the John Buxton in 1871 census to your ancestors.
