I am trying to trace my great great grandfather, David SWIFT born c1827 Chesham? on census' it says born in Chesham, Bucks, does anyone have any access on looking this up for me please?

It says she is his housekeeper on that last census and he is a Boatman.

Hi and thanks to all! I cannot seem to trace his birth to Chesham or Uxbridge. There is a David Swift West Drayton but that is definately not him.

Not yet got in 1861.
Wonder whether children in 1871 are actually Swift or Nixon or a mixture? Not obvious births.

In 1891 there are 2 daughters : Harriet Swift 18, Matilda Swift 17,
in 1901 there again: Harriet Swift 27, Matilda Swift 25
In 1881 there is a Matilda Johnson 16 - co-incidence? And where is Harriet?

William Swift was my great grandfather I have managed to get his birth certificate, its the elusive David Swift, his father I cannot trace where he was born. any ideas what I can do?

I'm wondering if David changed his name at some point (has been known to happen) - can't see him before 1871.

Just wondering if the marriages of his children might give any clues.

The return was completed by Caroline and says that Eliza had 8 children, all of whom survived. Under the "Not Known" for Eliza's bithplace someone (the census officer?) has written "possibly North London"

Hi Patchem That is the correct birth for William. His mother was Eliza Nixon.
