Can anyone out there in the community find this lady?
Cecilia Seddon (b:1871)
Married :- October 1892 - Manchester Registry Office George Thompson (b:1870). My Great Grandfather
Certificate reads:-
Brides Father: James Seddon - 'Machine Fitter' - 'Deceased' Grooms Father Robert Thompson - 'Lithographic Printer'
Address: Where living: 32 Great Bridgewater Street
Witnesses: J Driver (could be 'Diver?) and M Booth
Have exhausted myself and the different sites looking and all proved fruitless. Can find George in census's up to 1891 then nothing for 1901. Poor Cecilia cannot find on any Census?
Only visible clue has been 1881 census of James Seddon (1847?) - Machine Fitter Iron living in Bedford, Leigh Lancashire with wife Elizabeth and children, but no Cecilia.?
Any advice welcomed with open arms!

Is this James's marriage, and was it you who left the postem at FreeBMD?
Marriages Jun 1867 Seddon James Leigh 8c 2_8
"26/11/2006 the page number is 238. he married amelia platt. i have certificate."
Unfortunately, no indication of who "I" is, or how he or she might be contacted!
This is the only C* Seddon birth who looks remotely like Cecilia, 1869-1873:
Births Dec 1872 Seddon Celia Prescott 8b 655
Did you have her birth, or is the DOB a census report/calculation?

it is quite possible that her father James was a figment of her imagination - it happens.
May not be the case but needs considering

Here's a possibility, although perhaps remote.
Name: Cecilia Ledson Age: 13 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1868 Relation: Step Daughter Mother's Name: Ann Jane Where born: Liverpool, Lancashire, England Civil Parish: Toxteth Park
It looks like Ledson, but that could be a contemporary mistranscription. "L" and "S" are one of the biggest instances of mistranscriptions at Ancestry (e.g. Sawrence for Lawrence, occupation Lawyer for Sawyer).
This is the household, and it might take a bit to untangle that:
Ann Jane Jones 40 John Jones 10 Margaret Jones 1 Thomas Jones 42 - head, engine driver Cecilia Ledson 13 George Ledson 11 Mary Ann Rankin 75 Ann Sheridan 62 William Sheridan 32

Hello Minnie
I dont know where she was born but assume it to be Manchester or Salford, Lancashire.
Unconfirmed 'chinese whispers' in family say she was adopted by a vicar - but that isnt any help in finding her! also they used to say they thought her name was 'Elizabeth' but again that is not confirmed?
George was born in 1870 according to the marriage certificate as aged 22 and Cecilia 21, but of course both parties could have exaggerated their ages to be free to marry? (just a thought)
Both parties were literate and signed their names clearly ?

My goodness folks only went to make a brew and let off steam on the general chat page about adverts on Ancestry, and all these replies.
Will have to sit and work out what you have all written to me and see if any of the information links my Cecilia. This poor soul has had a bad time of it where searching for her is concerned.
She was found a year ago by me and I never acted upon the name, as had been told her name to be Elizabeth. I ignored my instincts but kept her in a book, written down. Now I must unearth her and set to right the mistreatment I have given her and her name.
I will thank all of you and let you know how I get on. Its been a long time since I wrote on the 'help pages' because dont want to 'use' people whe I could try to do it myself - but oh! folks, when I do,. its great to recieve the 'feedback' and the friendliness from everyone. Much appreciated. Regina

Hi EvieBeavie!
Just shutting down my computer and thought would at least give you the names of their children all of whom I cannot find on the census...well didn't want to spoil your fun and thought would let you know how crazy I have become just trying to find my grandfather George and Cecilia's son and his siblings? they had :-
Ada, and Eadie (Edith?) and Emily and
George (my grandfather) born 13.12.1898 think Manchester or Salford 19 Fleet Street - still living there when he married in 1922 my grandmother and when his father was then a Warehousman
Nellie Thompson I think 1895 as her marriage age suggests this when she married in 1918, by which time her father was a 'Private' Soldier.
Cant find them on census because dont know their birth place but do know they lived in Salford during the late 1890's and the rest of their lives I guess.
Didnt want to confuse everybody with all the siblings because until I find George (1870) on the 1901 census, wont find them and determine their ages from that census you see?

Untraceable Cecilia (1872) has finally been traced as far as 1911!
She is there with her husband George Thompson (1870) and their children at 16 Longworth Street, Deansgate, Manchester in the census although her name has been spelt 'Celia' ?
All of you who helped earlier last year - thank you!
Now I know I may have updated this thread incorrectly and am sorry if I have, but pressed 'add' at bottom of final thread and nothing happened. So pressed 'Edit' and am able to type something.
Dont see her anywhere in 1901 nor her husband.?
The first child was Nellie Thompson born in 1894 then Ada 1896, George (1898), Emily 1901, Eadie (1903) John (1903), James (1907) and Robert (1909) all were born in Manchester.
Cannot find Cecilia's birth cert but have obtained marriage cert. for her and husband George Thompson. They married 1892 and Cecilia's father was a 'Machine Fitter' Deceased at the time of marriage. Two witnesses were J Driver and M Booth.
In 1878 there is a James Seddon (1834) deceased on ancestry.co.uk on the bmd page. Above is a Cecilia Booth (1809) - could Cecilia have been the daughter of this Cecilia Booth? I looks so coincidental. Anyone out there connected at all to these two names?

Hi Regina
great to get the update!!
Thank you so much
Just so you know.
The ADD at the bottom of any post (not just the last one) doesn't work ............. has not since GR made all its changes earlier this year.
You have to scroll UP to above the thread title, there you will see a purple button with Reply on it, click on that and a box opens in which you can type your response.

Hello Quinsgran and Sylvia In Canada
Not been back on genes for a week - allowed someone to stop over and use the computer the last few days ...just thought would see if any e-mails and behold at last some replies to 'Untraceable Cecilia' - Lovely to hear from you!
No Quinsgran, did not consider the two people's suggestions about Celia and the Prescott birth...why? because got caught up in the groom George (1872) my great grandfather instead and was thrilled to find his family and siblings...so poor Cecilia stayed on the shelf, and that was also because felt her to be 'adopted' and so knew she wouldnt have been born with this name - now putting 'family whispers' to one side and will apply for the certificate and see what I get back for this. Thanks for reminding me. Will let you know the outcome! Regina

Hello to all. I promised to let you know about the births of Cecilia Seddon as mentioned on Ancestry.co.uk ie. the ones in Prescott. Both sadly are not her, as they turn out to be that of a Celia or Cecilia, whose father was John (a coal miner) and mother Emma Dennett....this means there is no James Seddon 'Machine Fitter' as her father.
I do not know where to look now. I have looked on Ancestry and Genes and cannot find a Cecilia Seddon at all. Am beginning to think the rumours of her having "been adopted by a vicar" may be true after all. There is a vicar James Seddon (b: 1835) in Bilston, Ettingstall in the 1881 census, but no mention of a Cecilia. Any suggestions? from Regina
