10th July 2015 Round Up for June / July

Completed / actioned threads be removed to a sub board within the suggestions board?

Thanks to Joy for this suggestion which I know she did make initially a few years ago, but as this has been raised again just this past week, I thought it would be beneficial to raise this again.

12th May 2015 Round Up for both April / May

* The FT used to be a lovely blue background, after a while it was changed to boring white. Preference is to choose personal background colour.

- I can see something similar was raised previously but this was for general background. As this specific to FT, it has been raised again as a possible inclusion for future..

* Get rid of 'marked as answered'

- This has been raised previously I can see but as recently re posted and as it seems to be a popular suggestion, we can certainly look into this again.

* Many folk are not familiar with the 'search term construction' requirements for searches within databases. It would be very helpful if genes had some form of guidance box when a member clicks through to Advance Search. (eg use of brackets, quotes, AND, OR, etc.)

- Good idea and very useful – thank you for the suggestion.

• Change colour palette and text size to make boards easily readable
- Thank you JoonieCloonie. We will not redesigning the site at present, but will certainly consult GR members before changes are made. We want to ensure that users have the best experience.

• Remove 'marked as answered'
- Thank you Jacqueline. This has been raised before and will be looked at again.

• Forum for people to point out problems they are experiencing
- Thank you Alisdair. As others have said we did consider having such a 'problems' board but we feel it is important for every problem to be dealt with as directly and as quickly as possible, so we would like all issues to be reported to [email protected] please.

• Get rid of 'marked as answered'
- Thank you Jacqueline. Unfortunately this has indeed been discussed before - I'm afraid that it cannot be changed at the moment but it is still on the list to be investigated.

• Extend the validity of credits
- Thank you Graham. We will not be changing the validity at this stage. Remember to check subscription options, a subscription may be more cost effective.

• Using 'sex' rather than 'gender'
- Thank you John. We'll look in to this one.

• Indicating an account status when a message is unopened.
- Unfortunately we cannot disclose the status of other accounts, but we are looking for a solution.

• Implement a bounce mail system for unanswered messages

• Capacity to have more than one set of parents (ie for people who have been adopted)
- Thank you for the suggestion Julian, we are always looking at development of the tree

• Preview of message without opening the message
- Thank you johnenigma, we can look in to this

• Re-order the community boards, with Genealogy chat appearing higher
- Thank you for your suggestion BeverlyW

• Provide non-registered people to use a Genes guest account

• Enable the ability to add photos to queries
- We will look in to this and see what we can do

• See whether members have opened/read PMs beyond checking sent emails

• Add board for local history
- Thank you for the suggestion Graham, we can certainly do that!

• Improve capacity for uploading media
- We will look in to this and see what we can do

• Incorporate the facility to have multiple trees
- We are working on a new and improved tree, and will keep you updated

• When editing relations in my tree (marriage date and place added), details are not saving
- This one has been flagged with support Peter, who will be looking in to this further

• Would it be possible when a new thread is started, to check that the same thread title and body from the same author, has not been posted in the last few seconds, and if so to reject the second?
- Thanks KenSE, great suggestion. We will see whether this can be implemented

• Bring back surname summary

• Include an illustration or sample of what is indicated when putting forward a suggestion

Hi Everyone,

We have been asking for your suggestions, which have been a great help in drawing our attention to how we can make improvements on Genes Reunited. Here's where we are with all of your outstanding points:

• Flagging threads as 'closed'
- We have had feedback that users prefer not to leave closed threads on the boards. However, whoever starts the thread can delete it from the site

• Remove completed actions/threads from the board
- We can remove these. Again, the member who initiated the thread can remove the thread by deleting the first message in the string

• Fix the 'tick' so that it can be turned off
- This one has been passed to the tech team. Great suggestion, we hope t implement this one soon

• Difficult to find the 'help' section
- Again, this one has been noted. We want users to be able to contact the team for help

• Emoticons not working
- This issue has been fixed. If anyone is still experiencing problems please email [email protected]

• Notifications on the user homepage saying they have unseen messages when they have been seen
- If you are experiencing this please email [email protected]

• For travellers in and out of Britain 1900 to 2004. Add old elector roll information please
- Unfortunately we don't have this data, but adding new records all the time

• Would like to see the 'Find My Family' extended to the antipodes (Australia)
- We don't have Australian records at the moment, but they may be added in the future. You can search tree to see if anyone has added the names the member is looking for with the place of birth being Australia

• Missing 'Next' census button - if the family that you are researching is listed on the end of the census and then on the next census page, you need both names to access it
- We are currently looking in to this bug

• Members offering lookups and then asking for payment for further information. Can something be added to the information for new posters that any such request should be reported as being against T&Cs
- Any posts asking for money should be reported to [email protected] - we do not allow posts of this type

• I've been using Geni. To add a portrait to the name, you click once, your files are shown, you choose, open a photo and it's uploaded. Can the Genes system not be as simple?
- At the moment we will not be changing the way we add photos. Your comment has been noted for future development

• Reinstate the old tree printing facility
- We will be keeping the current facility in place for now - which prints the view of the tree which can be seen on screen

• Unable to close my own thread
- Members should be able to close their own threads by deleting the first post. If you are unable to do so please email [email protected]

• I've been using Geni. To add a portrait to the name, you click once, your files are shown, you choose, open a photo and it's uploaded. Can the Genes system not be as simple?
- Thanks for your suggestion Charles, your comment has been passed to the development team

• When one looks at the comments about the "new tree" since it was introduced it is obvious there are very many members who are unhappy with it and am sure would welcome back the old tree
- Thanks for your comment Barry, we have a team working on the tree. The development team do take notice of comments and suggestions on the board
