BTW

GR says Support will (or should!) respond within 24 hours ........... but office hours are roughly8:00 or 8:30 am to 4:00 or 4:30 pm

so you probably won't hear until tomorrow.

Phantom Reporter :-D :-D :-D :-D

No, at least in this instance the opening post was reported twice, and a couple of other posts also reported.

The thread also had a minority of members on it complaining.

So in this instance two plus two is four & as the complainers have denied any finger twitching I can only assume its someone with their own agenda who has RRd whilst hiding their beak behind a veil of secrecy.

If the reported posts were bad enough to be reported why did they ignore mine ?

Answer...because certain people were targeted...nothing to do with the posts. Most posts you can pick holes in & find reasons why it needs to be reported, and if you put a good enough argument across, it gets removed.

"You should have received an email from GR telling you that the thread had been removed, and why."

- I have had posts removed and not received notification about them.

I e mailed genes about 2hrs ago, after finally finding my message on my sky mail site,
my thread was taken off because i was abusive?i was never abusive to anyone on that thread and in the 7yrs ive been on this site have never been abusive to anyone in a post or e mail,i never breached T&Cs and i was just asking for help from GR,and instead of helping they threatened to ban me?
NICE.so it seems to me that the long standing members are treated like s--- on this site, beware never question a post just take it all in and believe everything you read, its all TRUE. :-(

jax Report 23 Jan 2012 22:02

It is just a standard email from GR I got one the other week.

My post was removed I asked why and I got a standard reply, but I could not understand why any member would have reported it in the first place.

The first email they sent me said I was on a warning because

"You will already be aware that you have previously been reported to us for your postings on our website."

Now if I was aware, where are the other emails telling me I had posts reported??

I asked if they could tell me about the other so called reported posts....did they tell me....No

Sorry if I gave misinformation re getting emails from GR

I have had postings RR'd ..... always on "old" Chat, and in evey case I received an email from GR telling me that it had happened, and what the alleged reason was.

I've also succeeded in getting posts restored.

Mildred

before mocking me ..... take note of the following facts, and then ask yourself the questions that follow.

1. The posts and OP to which I am referring usually get RR'd on Genealogy Chat and Find Ancestors
2. The posters have ranged from brand new to infrequent to regulars ........ the poster asking for 17th century info was relatively new
3. These are posts asking for information ............ not giving opinions that may differ from anyone else's on the thread

Then ask yourself:-
1. How often are you on the boards between about 10 or 11 pm and 6 am?
................... at least 5 or 6 nights a week; once a month; once a year; never

2. How often do you post on Genealogy Chat and/or Find Ancestors
.................. at least 5 or 6 nights a week; once a month; once a year; never

3. How often do you look on Genealogy Chat and/or Find Ancestors?

If you are on the site 5 or 6 nights a week and almost always on those 2 boards ......... then I will accept your mockery

otherwise .............................. it's just an unpleasant response to my posting

Point is, we are referring mainly to the posts reported on this board the other day on the removed thread, which hasn't much to do with a phantom on other boards & TBH shouldn't be used as an excuse for the reporting of the posts mentioned..

Have you ever wondered if the phantom reporter is more than one person ?

After all, if its such common knowledge then I would assume that any wum, or genuine reportee are quite happy to sit behind the generic phantom reporter guise.

They are only phantom because you say they are. In fact, the person/people who are constantly reporting threads between the times you say are probably enjoying the game of cat & mouse watching you all talk about innocent posts being reported, makes them do it all the more.Other people are then happily doing their reporting, be it for right or wrong reasons knowing the phantom will get the blame.

Regarding the thread the other day, posts were being reported whilst I was typing which definitely were during UK daytime hours.

Detective

The thread was probably rr by someone who took offence. Whats a laugh for some is emotionally scarring for others (true breach of T&Cs aside) :-D :-D :-D

Island

Island Report 24 Jan 2012 09:32

The OP doesn't specify a particular board.
I read it as a suggestion that those who report threads should be named.

Julia

Julia Report 24 Jan 2012 10:13

The way I feel at the moment about all of this is, it puts you off posting anything on any board. If you have to mind how you string two words together, in the English language, then there is no point in posting. Now, when you get to that stage, then you might aswell not be a member.
Now, take the first few words of my second sentence. Can the adjudicator string two words together in the English language, and thus decide whether they are a breach of the T & C. Or, do they have to work under the process that, for instance, that so many per hour break the T&C and so many don't. Its as easier a way as any to make the decision. Because I for one cannot understand what their criteria is.
Sylvia, I did report to GR, and asked for a better explanation than the bog standard that they churn out. I got the bog standard, and the threat to revoke my membership for life.
In my book, if you are to be punished for a misdemeanor,or any type, in whatever walk of life, then you have the rite to know why. So that standard policy that they operate this system by, is undemocratic, and I thought we lived in a democratic society.

hi everyone.
you will know that i e-mailed genes last night to ask why my thread had been taken off the boards, the reply was,
It has been brought to our attention that the nature of your posting breaches the message board guidelines.(it did not)
so i sent them another e mail asking how i had breached the T&C and asking for a reason why my post was taken off,the answer was,
We wont discuss individual postings(why it was my post?)
But please be assured that our moderation team follow strict guidelines and individually examine each report that has been made(what a load of *****)
so what they are saying is, post a load of c*** on this site and get away with it,but if you dare tell the truth we will be down on you like a ton of bricks. :-(

jax

jax Report 24 Jan 2012 21:07

Is this the email you got Suzanne?

Dear
Thank you for your email. We won't discuss individual postings, but please be assured that our moderation team follow strict guidelines and individually examine each report that is made to them. A posting is only removed from the site if it breaches our message board guidelines. Here's a link to those guidelines for your reference: http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/content.page/message_board_guidelines It wouldn't be in our interest to remove postings unnecessarily nor to accept postings which breach our guidelines, and we follow a tight moderation policy to ensure that a consistent approach is adopted. If you believe that other inappropriate postings remain on the site, please let us know by clicking on the 'report' link which you'll see above each posting.

Suzanne

Suzanne Report 24 Jan 2012 21:56

had a look at the link and still cant understand why,i was not abusive to anyone and i did not breach T&Cs so why take the thread off? :-(

We're not stupid!!

Of course we have.

I gave you the short version, rather than bore you all with what we have and have not done!!

I think those of us who have noticed this phenomenon have considered, and noted, every little single thing we could ...... or that you could think of!

I have no real idea of what happened on old Chat or happens now on General Chat ....... I did participate in some threads on old Chat, and got caught up in some nastiness between a couple of people, merely because I posted on the same thread. I got RR'd .................. about 3 times I think.

I learnt to avoid a couple of people

and I'm very careful where I post on General Chat.

The very great difference between those events, and what I gather happens now, is that the RR'ing I'm talking about is happening on information request threads ................ not during any kind of "discussion", joshing, joking, or whatever.

please don't treat me as an idiot or a fool!
