Good to hear from you again.



How about the system used by ancestry, and several other sites that I use.

They simply put up a banner that runs across the top of the screen, and it shows, no matter which board or thread you are in ...................... it just says the site will be down from xxxx am/pm on such-and-such date, with apologies.


Then, when the site is down ..........an attempt to enter the site brings up a screen that says the site is down for maintenance (or upgrading), with apologies for the disruption.



That allows people to plan their time, without being completely disrupted in the middle of doing something.

Shows how much you appreciate the members who help on the boards when you can not be bothered to post on this site :-P

Praise for the members should be shown on this site as well

However, one does have to admit that it is a great advance from 2 or 3 years ago, when the "helpers" were rarely acknowledged.

There was nothing wrong with my post.

I was pointing out that as there were problems with GR at the time they posted an anouncement to that effect on FB to at least let members know that login failure was down to the site. I thought it was pretty considerate of them.

Although I am not on Facebook, so could not access the message from GR, there would have been no point in putting it on GR, because we could not get into GR., so could not have read it if they had.

Goodness somebody is finger happy today (and yesterday). Have they nothing better to do? I can't believe somebody took exception to that Island, you were only giving your personal point of view. Are we not allowed to do that any more, or is somebody working through the regular posters. Do you think they mark notches on the side of their pc?

But the point is that GR could have posted an apology on this site to let members know that there had been a problem earlier.

Why can they not see how simple it would have been to have done that ?

Not all GR members use FB !!!!!!!

ancestry and familysearch, as well as a couple of the free sites, post messages that appear when you try to use the site(s) when down

....... it comes up immediately you try to enter, saying the site is down, and apologizing.


Surely it would be possible for GR to do something like that?

Oh how funny! GR saw fit to remove a post that was in support of them LOL

Have they told you why they removed it?

No Ken, but then the coward who chose to report it didn't have the civility to contact me either. Never mind, life goes on. :-)

well, I did apparently have a post removed, on the 28th, I think .......................


but I only know because the guy who did it then sent me a pm!

He reported the post under "Other", apparently because I had disagreed with him :-0


He sent me a copy of the email back from GR ......... who have apparently removed the post.



I haven't the foggiest idea which post, or why



BUT


I was very disturbed to see that they had given him my surname ............ that has NEVER been available on this site!



so a blister of an email to GR wanting to know why they've violated my privacy.

That's outrageous Sylvia! I wonder if some have twigged that and RR just to get that information. It needs sorting NOW!

The reply from GR said that my maiden name was on My Account .......... and that if I do not want it used, then I should opt to have my Board Name used in all communications on the site, by ticking that in My Acoounts


Another blister of an email back to them ....... because that option has been ticked ever since I joined GR. I ask friends to check what is showing on my pms at semi-regular intervals ........ the last time was about 2 months ago, when it showed my Board name.


AND that option is still ticked today!



PLUS

that same guy who admitted RR'ing me, has today pm'd another member on here saying that she should not be hoodwinked by me ................ I RR posts if I don't agree with them

I do not know how many other people he might have pm'd with the same slander.

it seems HIS thread went between Tuesday and today, and he blames me for it ............. in fact he told her that the help desk had told him that it was me.


I did not!


................ and GR does not say who RR posts.
