Not seeing anything relevant - would he have been living in Ireland when he enlisted?
(Eire didn't come into being until after partition)

Yes, he was born in Waterford, Ireland in the parish of Ballybricken as was his brother Maurice who was also a ww1 surviving soldier.

Name: Thomas William Piggott.

" this record can be found at Findmypast"

If you don't have a sub, hopefully someone who does can have a look
.....

There are various Medal Cards for Thomas or T Piggott, but without corresponding service or pension records, its impossible to say if they are 'yours'.

As you are probably aware, over 60% of the service records were destroyed during WW2 bombing

This chap had served in the 4th Battlion The Royal Irish Regt which he describes as the Militia when he enlists, I found myself wondering if he is the same as the chap supposedly born 1878 above.

This 'second' man had older brothers Patrick and another older brother Martin(martin was serving with the Royal Irish) plus a younger brother MAURICE and sister Catherine, Roanmore Waterford. Thomas was discharged in 1906 as medically unfirt (insane). he had served in the SA campaign (Boer War?) and was entitled to the Queens S A Medal with clasps for Transvaaal, S A 1901 and S A 1902.

Have compared both records I posted above quickly as I want to go to bed....

I think despite discrepancy in birthplace and age, they are the same man.

EDIT: I thought Ballybricken and Holy Trinity Without were different locations, but there is a Catholic Church of The Holy Trinity Without, in Ballybricken.

First chap (1878 Ballybricken) was in 4th Battalion, transferred to Regular army 13th Dec 1899.

Second chap (1880 Trinity without) was in 4th Batalion prior to enlisting in the 18th Regt Royal Irish, on same date of 13th Dec 1899.

Both men were described as about 5 ft 3 1/2 in tall with fresh complexion, grey eyes and brown or light brown hair.

I'll try sending the images by pm.

I appreciate this isn't what you wanted, ie WWI records, but have posted/sent in case you thought them relevant.

Thank you Potty, I think that might be Thomas's death,

Thanks again Kucinta for looking for James, however, he could of been listed as John.

The older brother to these Pigotts was Patrick. any record for him in the military please?
