from Newcastle Courant dated 08 March 1777

There appear to be a few military mentions too.

There's quite a bit about the Ridleys on the internet, they were a well known family in the North East of England. I believe there are some collections at the Northumberland Archives at Woodhorn, might be worth dropping them an email [email protected]

Could you explain what you are trying to research - is it his place in history within the American war? Or his family in England?

I have an English ancestor who was a british Captain in the above war,who died in 1776 in New York. His name was Captain John Ridley. How would I go about researching . I live in Australia.
