Looking for my dad, he married susan lee in 1982 in stepney, she passed away in 1984. His name is evonne john lowe, he was a footy ref, a lorry driver

I don't see any records for him after 1982, using the name Evonne.

If he is using the name John instead, it's unlikely that any of us will be able to trace him, as John Lowe is such a common name.

When was he born? (Just the year will do, as we have to assume he's still living.)

Have you got their marriage certificate for his age and fathers name


Ancestry links him to a John lowe born 1948 Battersea

Evonne is an unusual name. Do you know where he was born?

Someone with the name Evonne Lowe is on 2008 ER in Humberside. No indication of gender, of course

That Evonne is "Mrs" when one looks at the ER on Ancestry.
Said to be born 1978-80 (per Ancestry). No indication of age on ER on GR..

There's also a Steven Lowe at that address, aged either 43-47 or 50-54 (both age ranges are shown on the ER on GR.) Born 1966-68 per ER on Ancestry

I suspected as much, but at least it's eliminated any potential relevance of that record

We need more info from the poster - such as the man's age when he married, and when last in contact

Well done AG. Answers a few things. Sad that Martyn seems to have had no luck with his appeal.

But as you said last night, finding a John Lowe is going to be really difficult.

I can’t find a birth for an Evonne.

If he was a football ref would he have to have been registered with the FA or a Refs Association?

In the newspaper article, Martyn said,
"He had a difficult upbringing, things can’t have been easy for him."

Reading between the lines, I suspect he was born under a different name, and adopted.

If he was an official trained referee he would have to be registered with the FA - but I'm sure there are lots of refs called John Lowe.

An unqualified and unregistered person can referee if no qualified ref is available.

There is NO birth registered anywhere in Staffordshire for John Lowe in AMJ 1948

The suggestion that he was adopted is beginning to look more likely

IF the date and place of birth are correct, and IF he was adopted -

there are three births which MIGHT be illegitimate - a Shaw (mmn Shaw), a Cotterill (mmn Cotterill), and a Jones (mmn Jones).



EDIT:
We can discount the 1948 Jones child.
His mother married a Meddings in 1951 in Cheadle RD.
The child, now known as Meddings, married in Devon in 1971, and died there in 2002.
