Someone on Ancestry (denisejarvis417) has two versions of a family tree - one offering the 1891 census (which says Rose was born in India) as the only "proof" and giving Thompson as an alternative surname for Rose McNab, without explanation.
The other is based on the 1901 census (the only "proof" of anything), which says that Rose's birthplace was London.

OK -
Your assumption of Patrick McCormick being your George's father is entirely wrong, so we can forget that family in Epworth (unless they're who you're really interested in? ).
You started this thread asking about the daughter of George Donaldson and Elizabeth Lambert.
I've had a look at George and Elizabeth's marriage cert, which should have been your starting point in any case.
They were married on 25 July 1921, at 53 [63 ?] George IV Bridge, Edinburgh, by declaration in presence of David Donaldson, chauffeur, and Agnes Syme, hosiery machinist.
[ Info here about a "marriage by declaration": https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/article/irregular-marriage-scotland ]
Elizabeth: 23, spinster, dairy shop assistant. Parents - John Lambert, joiner, and Margaret Lambert, mms Mair.
George: 27, bachelor, cable car conductor. Parents - HUGH MURRAY DONALDSON, tailor, and Margaret Donaldson, mms Anderson.
So George's parents' marriage:
DONALDSON HUGH MURRAY ANDERSON MARGARET ALEXAN[der] 1883 685/4 236 St Giles
George with parents and siblings in 1901:
Hugh Donaldson in the 1901 Scotland Census Name: Hugh Donaldson Age: 37 Estimated birth year: abt 1864 Relationship: Head Spouse's name : Margaret Donaldson Gender: Male Where born: Dalry, gallway [ Galloway ] Registration Number: 685/5 Registration district: Newington Civil Parish: Edinburgh St Leonards County: Midlothian Address: 93 Dumbridykes Rd [Dumbiedykes Rd] Occupation: Tailor ED: 16 Household schedule number: 53 Line: 14 Roll: CSSCT1901_385 Household Members: Name Age Hugh Donaldson 37 Margaret Donaldson 36 Janet Donaldson 16 Hugh Donaldson 16 Catherine Donaldson 14 Margaret Donaldson 13 George Donaldson 7 James Donaldson 4 William Donaldson 2 Jane Donaldson 1 Alexander Anderson 18 - stepson

Do you want more info about the ancestors of the correct George in Scotland, or is it really the Epworth family you're interested in?
|
On Ancestry, beside the 1901 census, the Ancestry tree owner (is this you, Jill ?)has added this note:
"denisejarvis417 Think this is my great grandad hoping to find his son George 's birthplace."
Well, George was born in Edinburgh - one of these births - almost certainly the first one, as no middle name, and Dumbiedykes Road is in the Canongate area:
DONALDSON GEORGE M 1894 685/3 685 Canongate
DONALDSON GEORGE HENRY M 1894 685/3 1039 Canongate
DONALDSON GEORGE ARCHIBAL[d] M 1895 685/5 71 Newington
I don't have any more credits to spare at present, but 6 credits (£1.50) would let you see the cert to verify parents' names. (Minimum purchase : 30 credits)

This will be George's brother Hugh Murray Donaldson, born 1884 in Newington district, not his father.
Hugh Murray Donaldson in the UK, Soldiers Died in the Great War, 1914-1919 Name: Hugh Murray Donaldson Birth Place: Edinburgh, Midlothian Residence: Leith, Midlothian Death Date: 4 Oct 1917 Death Place: France and Flanders Enlistment Place: Leith, Midlothian Rank: L Corporal Regiment: King's Own Scottish Borders Battalion: 2nd Battalion Regimental Number: 18448 Type of Casualty: Killed in action Theatre of War: Western European Theatre
Lance Corporal DONALDSON, M Service Number 18448 Died 04/10/1917 2nd Bn. King's Own Scottish Borderers
I won't post any more until I know whether it's the Scottish Donaldsons you're interested in, or the Epworth McCormicks.

Hi, Thank you so very much, for all the Donaldson info, some how I have mixed up the George Donaldson b 1853/6. I know that his father was James Donaldson or (McCormick) and not Hugh Donaldson. The connection is somewhere with the McCormicks at Epworth. The Ancestry denisejarvis417 is my eldest sister, we have both been working on this for a long time. Thank you once again for all your help Regards Jill

So you think your George is the Epworth one?
Was Margaret Mary Lambert Donaldson definitely in your family? As you had her exact DOB before you started this thread, it would seem so.
If so, what makes you think the Scottish Donaldson family are linked to the Epworth family?
Where did you get the name Patrick from? Mr McCormick is only referred to as James in censuses - no mention of Patrick. Where and when did James and Rosina/Rose marry?
Other unanswered questions from earlier posts in this thread:
Have you found your George's birth record? Is it the 1894 Mansfield one which RG posted?
You say that Rose 1883 died aged 5 years - but she's on the 1891 census. Or is that a different Rose? Where did your information come from?
You said the family were in the 1901 census as Donaldson, all born in Epworth. Please can you copy/paste that, as we can't find it.
What's the story with Florrie? You say she's a daughter of James and Rose - but her maiden surname was Dawson, apparently. And she wasn't with the family in 1891, when she would only have been about 5. She wasn't with them in 1901 either, unless Polly and Florrie are one and the same person.
What definite facts do you have - ie - proved by means of birth/death/marriage certs?
We have only managed to find the birth records of the daughters Ann Elizabeth and Mary (and MAYBE George if the Mansfield one is correct). Have you found any others?
