Hello..... I just wanted to add an update to this thread as I had so much help from people and I am so grateful.

My Husband has now reconnected with His lost Aunt Sheila, Uncle Charlie and many cousins and we all have a lovely connection. We are still actively searching for Uncle Reggie with a Facebook campaign and a Twitter campaign to be launched in the next few weeks.

In November 2018 we received a message which shook us all. We were contacted by a family who had seen our online posts and thought they may be another part of this family. In fact we were informed that Grandmother Marjorie Adelaide may have married in Ticehurst Sussex in 1920 to an Albert Fry and they had 3 children. Clarence born 1922, Albert born 1925 and a girl born in 1928. In 1930 their mother disappeared with the lodger never to be seen again. In 1946 the husband instructed Solicitors to try and find his runaway wife so that he could remarry. She was never found, so in October 1946 she was declared legally dead. her daughter is now 90 years old and never knew what happened to her Mother. When we connected we decided to use DNA kits to confirm the connection, as the Mother of the 90 year old also used different variations of the usual names. Those results came in over Christmas and we now know for sure, that my Husband now has another 2 deceased Uncles and another living Aunt. So in all Grandma had 9 children that we know of. We now have records of her in 1920, but nothing between her birth and 1920. We will continue searching.

Our goals now for 2019 is to make a concerted effort to find Uncle Reggie but to also meet up with this new side of the family.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those on GR who help others and myself. If it was not for the Genealogical community so many people would still be searching for answers to family puzzles.

From my family to all of you a Very Happy New Year 2019!!!!!!!

You have a date for Reg's marriage. Is there any way to search Irish records for that?

I'm sure a lot of the above has been posted before, but ploughing through 5 pages of (sometimes lengthy) posts is not on my agenda.

A 1920 marriage means there could be several more children.

It now appears that Marjorie was possibly Adelaide Marjorie Humphrey who married Albert Fry in Ticehurst Sussex in 1920. According to their marriage certificate her Father was Albert Humphrey deceased, an Engine Driver. One of the witnesses was Gertrude Alice Humphrey. a sister perhaps? I cannot find any record of Adelaide, Gertrude or their Father Albert before 1920. I am currently still searching for Uncle Reggie.

Luckylainey Report 6 May 2018 13:09

Hello, I just wanted you lovely people to know, My husband and I went to meet Aunty Sheila, her daughter and Son In Law. Michael Fry's daughter (Cousin Sheila) and her husband David on Thursday. It was so emotional. We then took Sheila to see her Brother Charlie who she had not seen in 59 years. We had an amazing family reunion and party with the youngest being 6 weeks old and the eldest 85 years old. It was just incredible. We did not feel like strangers at all, it felt like family. We have all bonded and cannot wait to meet up again soon. We are still searching for Reg, and we know we will get there. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart xx

On Ancestry, the Irish Civil Registration Deaths Index only goes up to 1958, and Select Catholic Death and Burial Registers only go to 1992.

And he may still be alive.

Luckylainey

Luckylainey Report 24 Apr 2018 11:13

Joonie, I think there is a strong possibility that Reg may have passed away. If still alive he would be 79 years old. I really don't know if he would be in NI or Southern Ireland(Eire). Although his sister(85 years old) seems to think it could be NI. Surely if that were the case he would have shown up somewhere in the ancestry records?

ArgyllGran. My Husband recalls as a young man in the 1980's he always believed his Uncle Reg lived in or around Aldershot.

Have to go and get ready for work, so will pop back later. have a good day ladies :-)

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 23 Apr 2018 16:23

Going right back to your opening post, you said Reg was last heard of in the Aldershot Hampshire area.

When was that, please? Would it have been before or after his marriage?

Apologies if already answered elsewhere in this long thread.
And not sure why I'm asking anyway - just clutching at straws!

As far as Ancestry is concerned, Irish marriages only go up to 1958. Pity he didn't marry a couple of years earlier!

JoonieCloonie Report 23 Apr 2018 00:21

Well that's all rather stupendous. Congratulations on making the senior family members so happy. And say hello from us!

Now for Reg, when you say Ireland, do we understand Eire? Unfortunately there is a resaonable likelihood that he is deceased ...
