Do you know when he was born, William?
I can't see any sign of him anywhere, past or present. Is Macdonald his first name, or is it perhaps a middle name which he used instead?
Can see his parents in 1937 - not that that's any help:
William John Wright Scott in the Australia, Electoral Rolls, 1903-1980 Name: William John Wright Scott Gender: Male Electoral Year: 1937 Subdistrict: Toowoomba State: Queensland District: Darling Downs Country: Australia
With Ivy Elizabeth, at 152 Campbell Street West.

I see you've also been hunting for his parents who "disappear" about the same time:

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/living_relatives/thread/1285027
EDIT:
From the second link I see that Macdonald Scott must have been born between 1934 and 1939.

maybe William would tell us what evidence of Macdonald Scott there is - last heard of in 1939 how?
and keep to a single thread for this family now ...

Thanks for the responses. I have previously searched for the parents traced up to 1939. They were married in 1934. I have a letter from Wiliam's Aunr in 1972 which mentions that she had heard, years before, that William had a son Macdonald but she never heard from him again..

oh dear ... for future ref, William, and this is something no one understands and the site owner refuses to fix ... 'marked as answered' means that you have received all the information you need and the thread is finished
to avoid people skipping over it because it looks like you don't need further help, you could edit your subject line to add something like 'help still needed'
William's aunt is the Alice McMaster (sister of Macdonald Scott's mother Ivy McMaster), mentioned in one of your other threads?
so Alice never heard from her sister Ivy after 'years before' 1972.
just for the record this is the marriage in NSW
5155/1934 SCOTT WILLIAM J W MCMASTER IVY E SYDNEY
what is the 1939 record you traced? or is that the date of the letter mentioning Macdonald? they are only on the electoral roll to 1937 (in Queensland, before that in NSW)
Just for info and ruling out, a Jack Scott (Jack being sometimes a nickname), son of a William and Ivy couple, died in NSW in 1980 but he was likely born in 1913 to a different couple.

Ivy was born in 1912
New Zealand death index
1971/47377 Scott Ivy Elizabeth age 59Y >> matches dob 1912
(an Ivy Cantrill did marry a Scott in NZ but she was born in 1905 and had no middle initial)
a possible match for William born 1902
1973/28011 Scott William John AKA John William age 70Y
Given the seemingly close match between your Ivy and the death record for an Ivy Elizabeth Scott in 1971 it could be worth obtaining that certificate to see whether it does match
search deaths here and the certificate can be ordered on line

Thanks again. The Aunt mentioned was William's aunt, Annie Wright in Larbert Scotland.I received the letter in 1972 and it refers to a lettter that Annie had got "Many years before" Although William did not keep in touch, it is reasonable to believe that Ivy would have kept on touch wth her family in Victoria. In addition to Alice , she had a brother William Harvey McMaster born Benalla 1907. Their father was William John (on one record as William James) and mother Ethel Lilian Osborne. The 1939 Queensland electoral roll has the pair living in South Brisbane. It is not possible to see records of Australian births until 100 years have passed!\

A tree on Ancestry (owned by Dianne Anderson - is that someone you know?) says Ivy died 1977-80 - but doesn't give any reason for saying that, and doesn't give any indication as to where she died.
If you have a subscription to Ancestry, you can contact Dianne, or if you don't, you can PM me your email address, and I'll be happy to ask her to contact you.
She doesn't list any children of Ivy and William. She appears to be related to the McMaster side of the family, as she only gives name and dates for William, with no further details re parents, siblings or other relatives.

Ancestry shows the record of the 1971 burial of Ivy Elizabeth Scott in Auckland
NZ electoral rolls at Ancestry go to 1981
in 1957 and 1969, an Ivy Elizabeth Scott in Auckland was shown as a widow ... in 1963 she is shown as married but there is no other Scott at the Seddon Street address so that must be an error
there was a widowed IES shown in Bay of Plenty in 1954 but cemetery records show Archy Scott 1880-1950 whose wife was Ivy Elizabeth Scott (the 1905 marriage), and that IES is definitely the one shown on the electoral roll in 1954 at the same address as the one where she was shown earlier with husband Archy, and is probably the one shown on the later electoral rolls ... that IES was Ivy Elizabeth Millar born in late 1884 ... an IES died in 1976 at age 91 so that was probably the one who married Archy Scott in 1905
there is no other marriage of an Ivy Elizabeth to a Mr Scott in NZ to account for the 1971 death
>> the main thing is there is a 1971 death record in NZ for an Ivy Elizabeth Scott aged 59 who could be your Ivy and it could be worth getting the certificate to investigate
and that IES does not appear to be on any electoral roll in NZ, suggesting she was not a citizen

you have to order the certificate, William, that's the thing
you can do that (and see the index) because she was born more than 80 years ago
it's an either or thing
https://bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Search/Search.aspx?Path=%2FqueryEntry.m%3Ftype%3Ddeaths
You can search for death records if: - the death occurred at least 50 years ago, or >> the deceased's date of birth was at least 80 years ago.
do the search and you see:
1971/47377 Scott Ivy Elizabeth 59Y >> Order Product (link)
all you want is a printout (not a certificate) which is 20.40 which is just under £10
might well be all wrong, or not tell you enough to know for sure, but it's relatively cheap :-)

always google
unfortunately this one has no family info
http://www.corop.com.au/newsletters/corop-news-issue-14-Apr05.pdf
REGINALD MARA 15th April 1903 – 3rd February 2005 We were saddened to learn of Mr Reg Mara’s death in early February. Reg Mara was born on the 15th of April 1903 at the Corop Hotel, which was owned by his parents, Patrick and Ellen Mara. He attended the local school and throughout his long life he retained happy memories of his boyhood years spent in Corop. Chats with Reg about those early times were always interesting and enjoyable. He had a wonderful memory and a great talent for describing the people and events of those early times. Reg’s recollections have contributed greatly to our understanding and appreciation of that part of Corop’s early history. Reg left Corop when he was 14 years old to take up an apprenticeship with a grocer in Newmarket, Melbourne. After army service he took a position with Coles, where he stayed until his retirement at sixty-five. Within a short time Reg was asked to return for a brief stint and finally retired from his part-time position at the age of eighty-six. Reg Mara was a gentle, unassuming man. It was a pleasure to know him and spend time with him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends
There is contact info on that newsletter and someone might know the family.
