Apologies - I haven't had the need to see modern birth certificates so didn't realise they DO give a surname. |

My daughter has recently had a baby and she tells me the babies father is on the birth cert but she will not be known by his name....that's good as it was Italian and difficult to spell :-D |

There are not two certs.....merely two entries in the index., reflecting the fact that the child's parents were unmarried |

The child is registered under the mother's legal surname. The father can also add his name if he attends the registration. |

Which name is changed? The surname? If there are 2 surnames it probably means the parents weren't married. |
