thank you all, for your help. My father is Alfred Thompson born in 1932. I know he had at least 2 sisters, Barbara and Freda, and some brothers, Bert, Fred and John. There may have been others.
There was a story going round the family at one time that a relative of John Bibbey Thompson was either Mayor or Lord Mayor of Liverpool but I haven't been able to find any information about this. I believe the Bibbey family were in the soap business in the Liverpool area.
