Find Living Relatives

I hope I'm not giving a false hope. But I'm searching the boards for anyone born in 1947.
The birth date I have is 15th June 1947. This boy was given away to barnardos, or so the mother said, which upset his older brother, now deceased. He always wanted to find him.
If he was adopted under a new name, would he be given a new birth certificate a week later?
The birth was registered in Bury RD Lancashire.

As it's over 8 years since the last post on this thread, Tina isn't likely to be looking here for replies now.

You can try sending her a private message by clicking on her name in green at the top of one of her posts.

If someone is adopted, they don't receive a new birth certificate.
They have their birth certificate in their original name, and then an adoption certificate in the new name.
Adoption certs are not available or searchable online, as the information is confidential.

A person's birth date doesn't change, no matter when or how often the birth is registered - unless wrong information is given.

The date of birth is not the date when the certificate was issued - unless someone registers a birth on the same day that the child is born, but I don't suppose that happens very often.

However, if the birth date you're going by is just what people have said it was, and not backed up by documentary evidence, it's maybe possible that they have been under the impression that the birth date was different from what it actually was.

No, the birth certificate IS HELD, , so we have address of birth and mother's name and history of whole family. This is a missing child.

The information I gave was from the grieving brother's mouth. Although the brother is now deceased his wife knows the story.

Unfortunately, if the child was indeed adopted and given a new name, there is no way we amateurs can trace him, as any records will be in the new name, and we don't know what that name might be.

If the date of birth Tina has posted is correct, then her father is not the person you're looking for.
However, as she doesn't have her father's birth cert, the DOB she thinks she knows may not be accurate.

Has the brother registered with the Adoption Contact Register?

Other countries have similar registers.

If he does, and the missing person also happens to register if looking for his birth family, they may be put in touch with one another.
It's a gamble, of course, as it depends on both people registering.

If state,,,,the birth certificate is HELD,,,,,,what does that mean,you have the original or thats the surname.?

If you have the child original name birth certificate and the child was later adopted then applying for another copy will state ---Adopted on it,---as the original was issued PRE--adoption.and not passed through the department for any additional details to be added against the birth.registration.-But it will only confirm an adoption took place and not connect to any new name that may have followed.

The birth certificate was bought from the GRO, knowing that the child existed by our family's amateur historian. She was wife of his brother.
There is no annotation about adoption on it.
I saw it recently,
HELD.....is not the name, she has a copy of the cert in her possession.

The DoB of the child for whom this cert was issued is not the same as that quoted for the deceased person in the original request

Re-reading this thread, it is interesting that both birth dates,
15th June 1947 Barry Farnworth Bury, Lancashire
And admitted birth for Michael Barry Hudson 29th June 1947, yet to be identified…
both fell on a Sunday.

Has any member of his birth family tried contacting Barnardo's?

They have records of every child in their care since the 1870's.

He may not have been adopted, but remained in care with Barnardo's until of an age to live independently, and therefore kept his birth name.

Have you investigated the 1971 marriage of a Barry Farnworth in Bury ?

Or any other marriage of a Barry Farnworth?
There are three other possibilities in Lancashire on FreeBMD - 1971, 1975, and 1985 - but of course he could have married elsewhere, or not at all.

Appreciate these suggestions. We will work on that, thank you..I did contact another genes member but he didn’t feel free to share understandably, regarding a similar Barry. But I hope with a process of elimination and your suggestions we might get closer to the truth.
